Lying in magnificent countryside next to a sweeping section of Hadrian's Wall and based at the site of Carvoran Roman Fort, the Roman Army Museum is an authentic and dramatic tribute to Rome’s extraordinary military legacy. Step into the life of a Roman soldier and experience life on the front line of Emperor Hadrian’s formidable British frontier. Explored through reconstructions, objects excavated along Hadrian's Wall and the Vindolanda Trust’s inspiring interpretations of army life including the exclusive 3D Edge of Empire film, the museum pays unforgettable homage to Rome's military accomplishments in Britain.

This museum is full of facts and artefacts and is really interesting to look around. If you're doing Hadrian's Wall, definitely pop in, because it was the best of the museums we visited at explaining the timeline of the Romans in Britain and soldiers' lives....More

We stopped in here to escape the rain before exploring more Roman sites along the wall. The ticket price includes entry to Vindolanda, which was around £10. The Roman Army Museum would be a really good starting point before seeing any of the Roman sites...More

We stopped off at the RAM to get out of the rain for an hour before we started our walk of the Pennine Way, and I'm so glad we did as this museum is fantastic; the £5.75 adult entry fee was totally justified. Whilst admittedly...More

Take advantage of the reduced ticket price by booking both together. Very well presented exhibition and better to see this before visiting vindolanda 6 miles to the east.

I found this an interesting and engaging museum. It was a quiet spot not far off the Hadrian's Wall route and a great for a short break when walking the Hadrian's Wall trail. It is very close to a National Park visitor centre, which has...More

We came here with our American Cousins, and it was a truly amazing place, with lots to see, and very informative for anyone wanting to educate their children as well as themselves. Beautiful scenery outside, brilliantly captured themes inside. Thanks for a wonderful experience here.

Currently the museum does not have a roman costume area, however we are looking into this as an option during the Hadrians Cavalry exhibition this summer.
