Really fascinating with well-organised displays; appeals to the young and the old alike, new learners or people with good knowledge of the roman army. Not to be missed if visiting the wall.

Wonderful small museum with some very nice touches. Usual friendly welcome, really interesting. If you have children with you make sure they find the dressing up clothes. Buy a joint ticket which gives you 20% discount on a visit to Vindolanda.

We got this as a combined ticket with Vindolanda and were really glad that we did. Make sure you watch the videos they really bring things to life. My 11 year old loved the Roman classroom.

We stopped here after a walk along Hadrian’s Wall with 2 children aged 8 & 10. The museum, although quite small, has lots of interesting exhibits and a good 3D film showing what life would be like for a Roman soldier in Britain. The staff...More

An interesting museum, seeing the life of a Roman soldier from recruitment to the end of his army career. Holographic teacher was good and Eagle eye view film. Weapons and helmets brought it all to life.

The Roman Army Museum is built close to the former site of the Magna Roman Fort. It is unusual because it is not built on the wall itself. The display is excellent and really extends your knowledge on the format of the Roman Army. Good...More

Currently the museum does not have a roman costume area, however we are looking into this as an option during the Hadrians Cavalry exhibition this summer.
