Interesting visit and remains. Good parking. I think this site is more for the enthusiast than amateur visitor. Interesting and does give some insights into the life and living conditions of our roman occupiers. On site cafe for coffee and a snack. Lovely views around about.

Chesters Roman Fort is well worth a visit, whether you know much about Roman legionary life or not (you can buy a guide book, if you wish) and is situated right next to the River North Tyne, with views of the remains of Hadrian's Wall. There is also a small informative museum on site and a cafe (not the cheapest).... More

A historical site that will be of little interest to most people unless you are interested in roman history. If you are interested in roman history then this is an excellent place to visit.

Good parking and a good walk around the well fenced and gated excavated remains. Information boards unfortunate - you are here on most were facing in the wrong direction which would be confusing. Cafe lovely and friendly as were all the staff. Well done, English Heritage

We were hiking Hadrian's Wall with friends and stopped here. The museum is interesting and different from many others because it had a lot of information about the early days of saving and restoring the wall. The tea shop was quite nice, with a good selection and a very polite staff. Tours are available (free with entrance). There is a... More

It is hard not to compare this with other sites nearby like Vindolanda and because it is a fantastic piece of Roman history I don't want to be too critical. The point is if you want to do everything in the area then go, otherwise do not feel you are missing out. It is a lovely site and the Roman... More

Been here three times in the past year. The fort itself merits a half day. The museum is really interesting with mini iPads you can carry round when viewing the exhibits. Given that most of the excavation was privately funded, this is such a well preserved site that is worth traveling to see.

Our visit was on a snowy cold crisp January morning but we received a very warm welcome. The ruins of the Roman Fort are well laid out with plenty of information boards. On a cold winters day it made you really appreciate the convenience of gas and electric in our own homes. The museum houses and amazing collection of Roman... More

Even near the end of a damp, cold afternoon in January, all the staff gave a genuine warm welcome and a friendly smile. The welcome extended to the cafe, even though we probably arrived in end of weekend clearing up time. The warm scones and the good cups of coffee were served as cheerfully as the day outside was grim.... More

We were pleased to find that there was no parking charge on the day we visited, and as English Heritage members there was no charge (National trust also). Staff were very helpful and friendly, giving us some sound advice and information before we started. It was a damp and cloudy day, and this seemed to induce a 'moody' atmosphere, which... More
