A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

A very nice local Museum with great views, a fascinating history and a quirky mixed collection in a grand historic building. The staff are polite, friendly and really very helpful and there is a small but interesting art collection upstairs and some rather cute and funny, family-friendly exhibits down stairs. Great cafe and don't miss the tour of the caves... More

The castle is a historical part of Nottingham overlooking the whole city, however going inside its an art museum which really lets it down when you go for your round the castle and expect to know all the history and culture around it, they have a beautiful but expensive little cafe and the staff are so polite and really friendly,... It's an excellent place to visit, historical and contemporary art including touring shows Gentileschi, Da Vinci drawings and much more. regular art exhibitions from local and national artists. I like the cafe friendly and access to the verandah with views all round and grounds within easy distance to city centre

Great for a day out lots of history. It's good for a walk around to take it all in. But it is a castle after all. All about the history

If you want to visit Nottingham CASTLE don't think you are going to see a castle in the sense of the word. It is not the original castle and it is now a museum, which is interesting in itself but don't get lead into thinking anything else. The exhibits are interesting and there's a Robin Hood trail which is great... More

The caste is a little nice surprise. The collection is small but very interesting. The coffee is really bad, though the coffee shop is OK

This was worthwhile visiting. The view from the top was great, the museum has lots of exhibits including a very comprehensive history of the castle and also history of Nottingham and Robin Hood.

We were aware that there is practically no castle left on the site, but wanted to visit to see the caves and see the mansion that is now used as an art gallery. The admission, £20 for the four of us, seemed reasonable, but I was rather surprised to then find that we needed to pay another £20 for the... More

Good points - the grounds are nice, and the fine art in the two galleries is worth seeing. The paintings are very poorly laid out, with little in the way of explanation of what or who you are looking at. However, that takes up an hour maximum and the rest is not worth it. The guide you are given on... More
