Good facts and good fun

Lots of interesting facts and the guide was dressed up and acted as an inmate of the prison, which made it even better. I got pilloried for a couple of minutes as well :)

Compared to other castles Oxford doesn't offer a lot but if you've got some extra time and would like to check-off another English castle, well, then why not.

The tour is conducted by an actor playing the role of a figure from the past. The remains of the castle are quite limited, but there is also an old prison attached. The guide was good fun, and the tour would be particularly good for kids. The tour lasted about an hour, after which you were free to look around... More

Our guide was the castle governor in Georgian England. Along the way we met other characters as well. He was excellent and quite knowledgeable- he was able to answer all our questions. Don't book ahead (at least in the winter) - it costs more and is unnecessary. Beautiful view of Oxford from the tower!

If you like to know about castle and meddle age you will love it. Not only for that but also for the way that they show this castle.

We did the tour as a last minute decision and it was one of our better ones. The lady guide was very interesting and informative and made the tour. Definitely a must do when in Oxford.

We went there not knowing what we were going to experience. To our surprise it was great. It's a lot of fun. You get to know the history of Oxford with actors dressed as in the old times. They are really funny and encouraging as well. At the end of the tour you go to the roof and you can... More

The knowledgeable guide takes you through the history of the castle, and you get to explore various areas of the building. It was interesting to discover it's beginnings in Norman times and that it was used as a prison in it's relatively recent history.

You can only see this castle by tour. And yes it is a tourist attraction, knowing this I didn't expect too much but I was pleasantly surprised. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions. Being near 1000 years old the Castle has a rather extensive and colorful history. We were a very small group so when a particular... Our tour was led by Daniel Harris and the actor was so entertaining and made sure that the tour was interactive and educational - definitely the most interesting tour of a historical site. You are led through the floors of the castle and get to see the view of Oxford from the top of the castle before you are left... More
