I went when it wasn't busy at all so I got private tour. We went down into the Norman crypt and to the top of the tower as well as into since of the cells to see how prisoner life changed over time. My guide played the character of Rowland Jencks and told me everything I'd want to know about... More

Came here with two young children. If your children are under 5 years old then they cannot go up the tower but fully understand why as there is lots of steps and i can feel the muscles in my legs now but has an amazing view of Oxford. I really enjoyed the history and the castle has had so many... More

Pre booked our tour online using a discount code found in our hotel room in jurys Inn. We had our own private tour as no one else had booked on our time slot! Our guide was Roland Jenckes. Who was very knowledgeable and engaging. He was refreshingly enthusiastic about history and made a real effort even with just the two... More

I absolutely loved spending the morning at Oxford Castle. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and I would really recommend the guided tour - you are shown around the Castle by one of the historical figures who resided there at one time or another. Our tour guide, a highwayman who was kept in Oxford Castle when it was... More

This castle has lots of interesting stories along the history. The only way to see it with their tour, which takes about an hour, and is led by an actor. It is a bot off the city center, and therefore not one of the must-see places if you come to Oxford just for one day. If you do go there... More

We arrived in Oxford for a day and didn't even know they had a castle. We decided to get a family ticket, and was taken round by a tour guide dressed as empress matilda, who has a story within the castle. Our tour guide was fantastic, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. And the castle it was amazing, the mound was great... More

We decided to limit our visit to visiting the mound. This costs £1, The mound has no rails on it so if you have mobility problems beware. We bought the tickets from the Oxford Castle Unlocked ticket office. The staff were dressed in costume and were pleasant. Good idea to visit the Oxford Castle Unlocked if it rains or is... More

Well my tour guide was thr Jailer himself! The character guides are a nice touch, and my guide was very knowledgeable and well prepared. The building is historically significant up to its final days as a prison in the 1990's! Gruesome details, as this was never a happy place! Great value for the money.

I really liked this tour, was better than i expected, great knowledge and performance by the guy who played King Charles, and had a nice chat after. I thought the entry fee was pretty reasonable too , would definately reccomend.

Had a great guided tour from the Empress Mathilda! Came to Oxford with the parents for the day and decided to check this out. The tour was fun and really interesting. Nice and balanced, kids were kept entertained and interesting history for the adults! A walk to the top of the mound was also worth it for some good views... More
