Lovely saxon church with a truly wonderful tower with small square stonework. Church was open so went inside to look around and sit to reflect for a moment.

St. Mary's contains architecture from Saxon through Norman to medieval gothic and beyond. The guidebook is brief but helpful and there is plenty to seen. Importantly, this church is still a church and, in addition to church services, provides help to the homeless and vulnerable....More

The stones to build the church were taken from Reading Abby in 1540. As you walk in look at the floor to see the grave stones of people back in 1700s. The church was open for us to walk around even though there was a...More

Surrounded by a graveyard and situated in the middle of the town centre. Impressive when lit up at night. Surprisingly old when you do some research about the building. Opening times seem to vary as it usually appears locked up.

Well worth visiting especially for the mottled block work. Church is over a thousand years old and has a very interesting history.

I couldn't imagine there could be a so old church in Reading. This church, since 979 AD, has been standing here as proof of our faith. Quite simple inside, welcoming everyone would to take a relaxing time for stay and pray.
