I've been in both directions down the canal from Reading, both to Newbury and Sonning. Both great routes, even in the mud! There are a few tight gates that are tricky to get your bike around unless you lift it up. I wouldn't recommend wheelchairs...More

There are some nice parts and others not so nice. I wouldn't recommend going along here alone. Some interesting sights a long the way but sprinkled with graffiti too.

I love the Kennet and Avon canal, it winds through some beautiful countryside and has stacks of history, as an angler the fishing is first class.

I walked along the Kennet & Avon Canal coming from the ruins of the abbey. It was a discovery to see that from the ruins the path is full of chestnut trees, in fact it's called chestnut walk. The path goes along the prison too...More

No Reading is not hell but I rather liked the attention grabbing title. The Kennet is a haven though. Water does this. So peaceful. I love canals and this is a good one and it has gained respect. Many towns turn their backs on these...More

from the town centre you can walk along the canel all the way to Sonning if you want a long walk,or a short walk you can take in the Forbury gardens the Abbey ruines the main shopping centre with a selection of eating places.
