I visited this museum without many expectations because the website isn't great. However, I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed my time there! The museum is all about Sheffield's industrial past so it has lots of information, lots of artefacts and a few working models (including the largest working steam engine in the UK). The steam engine is demonstrated every... More

Visited while our husbands were watching the snooker & as two ladies were a bit unsure how interesting an industrial museum would be for us but we were very pleasantly surprised. Seeing the engine in action in itself is worth a visit but the displays were also very informative and interesting. On the day we visited there were two volunteers... More

An absolute must-see in Sheffield. Highlight is the River Don Engine, demonstrated in steam most days - see the website for times. Largest steam engine in the world. If real ale is your thing, you will be walking past the Kelham Island Tavern and Fat Cat - don't!

Decided to go on a rare raining day in Sheffield and not disappointed. The museum is located in a former power station surrounded by rivers and what would have been the industries it used to serve. A setting that adds more authenticity to the museum. The displays and exhibitions are of a truly high standard and well labeled. The displays... More

Attended a wedding. Only "downer" was that it was cold. Interesting walk back through time and the industrial revolution of steel making in Sheffield. The smell reminded us all of past times.

This is engineer heaven. I keep bringing friends here especially to see the massive steam engine which is a sight to behold when in full steam. Great story of the Sheffield steel industry well told, even my wife has visited 3 times. As an extra treat visit the cafe next door.
