The spire of St Mary's is one of the tallest in England and for over 500 years it has dominated the skyline of Shrewsbury's old town. In 1739, showman Robert Cadman attempted to slide from it, head first, using a rope and a grooved breastplate. His engraved obituary stands outside the west door. The church is now the only complete Medieval church in Shrewsbury. It dates from Saxon times and has beautiful additions from the 12th-century onwards. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful with the soaring stone arches giving way to the church's great treasure - its stained glass. There are panels in glorious colour including the world-famous 14th-century 'Jesse window' filled with figures of Old Testament kings and prophets. No other church in the country has a collection to equal it. The Café at St Mary's Church, Shrewsbury, run by the Battlefield 1403 farm shop and deli, is now open Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm.

The church has some wonderful stained glass windows. It's very calming in the church if you need a quiet place to contemplate, and if you get hungry there is a delightful coffee shop with fresh sandwiches, soups, quiche and cream teas.

For a parish church this is stunning. The exterior of the building has been wonderfully well preserved and the interior likewise. It can justifiable be described as a gem of Shrewsbury.

A large, very well-preserved medieval parish church with good information provided. Highlight would be the stained glass, especially the fantastic Jesse Window.

This very old and delightful church enjoys a central position in the heart of Shrewsbury. Some beautiful stain glass windows and also enjoys many art exhibitions and displays. The doors are always open.

This building no longer serves as a church but has some stunning stained glass windows. These are worth the time to view. Apparently, most had been hidden during the Disdolution of the Monasteries and have since been reacquired and reassembled.

A church worth a visit while in Shrewsbury. There was a fund raising event on while we were there. Very friendly people , and good facilities to accommodate everyone.
