I'm not a racing person, but I live in Newmarket, the home of Britain's horse racing industry, where there are 3,000+ horses in training. We've been waiting and watching for the past few years as this wonderful spectacle has been developed, and it's open at last! An extraordinary amalgam of history, technical displays that include how the physical structure of... More

Great food. Reasonably priced. Nice place for lunch whether you visit the museum or not. Good for tea and cake or 3 courses.

We popped in and browsed but found the signage inadequate as we got lost and ended up behind the stables! We then came across an excellent & knowledgeable groom called Joe who took the time with us and brought out one of the horses. Taking snaps of paintings in the gallery isn't allowed (you can on the continent with other... More

A wonderfully laid out visitor centre in the heart of Newmarket. The whole site has been impressively and sympathetically restored blending the old traditional buildings with a contemporary twist of open space and modern fixtures giving plenty of light in the Atrium area. Plenty of interesting things to see in the main museum and display areas with modern display aids.... More

I was very impressed by the new horse racing museum, a lot of thought has gone into it. All though we did not get to see all of it our ticket enables us to return as many times as we like in a year. We started of with brunch in the tack room (lovely). Then the galleries and shop, the... More

The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing has moved from its old site and reopened in a stunning location, with amazing exhibits and a huge art collection. This has to be the museum of the year! Firstly because every employee and volunteer was welcoming, enthusiastic and brimming with information. Secondly, the museum not only has a fantastic display of art and... More

Great visit - couple with Dad (who's keen on racing) Very friendly & helpful staff. Lots of good displays, info & art. Lifts between floors. They kindly extended our tickets to cover a year, so we can re-visit & go to the art section. It was really lovely to go to the stables area & meet a horse & learn... More

We had a wonderful day at the new museum today. Beautifully displayed exhibits, polite and attentive staff and volunteers and great facilities. Good choice of food in the restaurant and a range of quality items in the shop. A great experience even if you are not interested in horse racing.

What a fantastic resource those interested in horseracing and horses in general have. There are interactive as well as static displays offering information from the history of horseracing to horse anatomy. There is a twice daily display showing the retraining of retired racehorses too. Palace house has been beautifully restored and is home to some fantastic equine art and sculpture.... More

During a short visit to Newmarket we happened across the newly opened Museum which was spectacular, interesting and educational. Opposite in the restored Palace House was a stunning collection of sporting art from 17th Century up to date. We shall certainly return for a much longer visit.
