The National Stud remains the only commercial stud farm in the UK allowing individuals, small groups and large parties the chance to see behind the scenes of a working Thoroughbred stud farm.

Tours of The National Stud, run by Discover Newmarket, last approximately 90 minutes and are taken by coach and on foot. The tours focus on introducing visitors to the history and purpose of The National Stud as a commercial Thoroughbred breeding operation. The National Stud is a working commercial stud farm, so the physical content of the tours varies throughout the year, depending on the season and the activities happening on the stud when you visit.

Did the 2 HR tour this morning. Peter our guide was knowledgable and entertaining. Very interesting tour round the estate in a bus with chances to get off and get close to the mares and stallions. Enjoyable for all ages

This tour is a must for all racing fans or any lover of horses. This was a very informative tour superbly led by our very knowledgeable guide. The whole estate is stunning. Without doubt the stars of the show were the horses. To watch the stallion Torenado strutting his stuff was brilliant. To see the very young foals was also... More

Stopped for a break on our coach holiday to Great Yarmouth, What a great place!! Much better, cleaner and cheaper than the usual service stations. Great to see the horses and with Newmarket being just a short drive down the road we had some spectacular views of them being taken out for their daily exercise

The people here love their job and want you to love it too! Unfortunately the tour doesn't really give you too much to see. I suppose it depends on the season! For us, it was a quick view of a few stallions at a distance

Paid that little bit extra for a day to remember and it certainly was from start to finish. Started just after 7am for a visit to Warren Hill gallops to be followed by a tour of Newmarket and a ride past other gallops and training establishments. Visited Julia Fielden's stables to experience the fantastic attention to detail offered by a... More

This Natinal stud is well worth a visit as it is set in th most beautiful serene countryside . There is a lovely refreshment building which stocks delicious cakes sandwiches and a gift shop selling paintings of horses by good artists.

Our guide "Frankie" gave a tour of the National Stud which was pitched at exactly the right level to cater for those with little knowledge of the horse racing industry and those with some background experience. Her style was fun and very flexible, adapting the talk and tour to our questions. Very worthwhile. Recommended!

Added this to our agenda as part of Newmarket Open Weekend and really enjoyed it. Was a 'taster' of the full tour. Very interesting and I'm sure in the Spring when there are lots of young foals, would be lovely. Tour Guide very knowledgable. I'm sure the full tour will be well worth a visit.
