Grey's Monument is a Grade I listed monument to Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey built in 1838 in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It was erected to acclaim Earl Grey for the passing of the Great Reform Act of 1832 and stands at the head of Grey Street. In addition to being a great place to meet, Newcastle City Guides open this iconic monument on a number of days throughout the year. Join us on a climb of 164 steps and take in great views of Newcastle's city centre and beyond.

The Monument is kinda at the Centre of the city. Located at one end of Northumberland St and Grey St and right next to the Eldon Square shopping centre and Grainger Market, it is obviously very busy throughout the day and night!

Walking around the streets of Newcastle and then came across this large statue very impressive and it is at the start of the open air market.

was there yesterday to visit the Christmas market and do some Xmas shopping. great place, lots of lovely street food and very interesting stalls.. loved it

Love seeing this monument, when I was younger you could climb the internal stairs to the top and get a fantastic view of Newcastle and surrounding area'sMore

You still can but not as often - the volunteers of Newcastle City Guides open it to the public at least 6 times a year - we might be in a position to do it more often next year. As you say for those who...More

This is probably Newcastle's version of Nelsons column. At the time of the visit the Christmas market was being built around it so we probably didn't see it properly. Good landmark though.

This imposing monument is a beacon for travellers walking the streets , being clearly seen from many vantage points .Its close by Monument metro station and surrounded by a shops and restaurants. It’s only about a 5 minute walk from Central station.

There's no point going to see this landmark in the centre of town unless you go up it - but this is limited to small groups and only open for the summer so check in advance of opening arrangements and booking details. View to die...More
