St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past.

Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city.

St. Mary's Guildhall also offers a memorable venue for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath the Great Hall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty, good value snacks and refreshments.

Built in 1342 the medeavil Guildhall of St. Mary's was one of the few buildings of it's time to survive the blitz of Coventry during the second world war. It is only open to the public during the summer months but is a must see for visitors to Coventry. The former treasury and armoury are well worth seeing and the... More

One of the few really ancient survivals in Coventry. It's well presented, and normally there are people there to help you understand what you see. Don't miss the room where Mary Queen of Scots was supposed to be held (but probably wasn't.) There's a huge medieval tapestry. Henry VI had his court in these rooms when Coventry was the capital... We went here for Christmas lunch during December, what a good venue. The food which was pre ordered came hot and fresh which i find unusual when catering for a large group. The service was excellent with a smile. Looking forward to next December.

Wandered in to look around. Since it is the current town hall, people are working. A nice man started telling us about the town and the building when he saw us looking at a map. Then he took us on a tour of the beautiful rooms! It was a special treat! The people (especially the man) at the cathedral information... More

You just have to touch the walls, the doors, the stonework, your are drawn to feeling the history of the place....it is a beautiful building. The surrounding historic buildings, the cobbled lane, the Cathedral ruins, it is a city brimming with history.
