St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city. St. Mary's Guildhall also offers a memorable venue for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath the Great Hall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty, good value snacks and refreshments.

What a wonderful place to visit. Old and beautiful architecture. It makes you feel that any moment someone from the 1920s will walk through the door and say good morning!! Another place where a camera is an essential.

It is literally next to the old cathedral and the street you walk up to get there is amazing. It really takes you back in time and if you visit when we did and it is almost empty you can really imagine yourself being there...More

If you're visiting the Cathedral, this is just next to it. It positively teems with history. The complex of rooms and the history is fascinating and the guides we've encountered each time we've taken visitors and family around are wonderful at making the place come...More

More than just a guildhall used for weddings, its a complex of rooms all with interesting histories. I loved the wonky room where 600 years of subsidence leave you quite disorientated.

This is a fantastic piece of history right in the middle of Coventry. Positioned next to the old Cathedral it is well worth a visit. The building itself is very interesting but the information you get inside is very informative. Such as the fact that...More

A 14th C Guildhall in the centre of Coventry's cathedral area. Brilliant if you can wander around with one of the volunteers as the history, and the stories, behind this building make it well worth your while. Once used by Mary Queen of Scots, it...More

This historic building opens at 10am and is free to enter. There are some very steep stairs so some visitors may find it difficult. I found the tapestry depicting Henry VI and Richard III particularly interesting.
