St Thomas’s Church. A welcome in the heart of the city Dating mostly from the Fifteenth Century, the Church of St Thomas a Becket stands in its own square at the north end of Salisbury High Street, a two-minute walk from the Cathedral Close. This has been a place of worship since the early Thirteenth Century. Please come in for a look round. Try to spot the “damned bishop” being led to Hell in the famous Doom painting. Or why not try counting all 250 angels on the roof, walls and pillars? There is full disabled access to all public areas of the church with ramps and an automatic door. Quiet, boisterous, contemplative, social: it’s always a good time to drop in to St Thomas’s. We’d be happy to meet you whenever you can stop by.

Definitely worth a visit, this church has an impressive lady chapel and an open vista up to the painting of Christ overseeing the liberation of the 'Last Judgement' and the dead emerging from tombs. To think that it was discovered under whitewash in the 19th Century shows how wise the locals were to hide it from reformation zeal!

Took in the church as part of the walking tour of the city. Beautiful and welcoming. Lots of people inside and activities going on (children's play area, cafe, what looked like bible study groups and a women's group meeting). We toured round with a guide and the church was very very welcoming.

Thank you Christine, for your lovely review, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and I'm sorry it is a bit awkward getting into the churchyard if the doors in the south aisle are locked. In fact, you have to go back out of the church, turn left towards Cafe Nero on the corner, then left again and you will find... More

In the centre of town the stand out feature is the Doom Painting above the arch into the chancel. Still quite bright it gives you a great idea of what churches would have looked like before the reformers white washed our churches. Despite its busy location it was still a quiet and spiritual place when we visited.

I went to this church for historical interest. It is well worth a visit as there are some excellent paintings and impressive architecture. There is no charge to visit. Recommended.

Right in the centre of the city this is an atmospheric and fascinating church that is well worth a visit. Excellent refuge from the outside bustle.

We visited this lovely old church to see what was advertised as a festival of Christmas trees, bit of a let down really,we imagined freshly cut spruce etc lining the aisles and scenting the church. Not so,just a few tiny little plastic trees decorated by the local schools perhaps? Really not worth a diversion to see this

I'm so sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to St Thomas's Christmas Tree Festival. This year we had over 119 trees entered for the Festival, all of which are supplied and decorated by local charities, schools and organisations. We had a record 15,000 visitors and have raised a huge amount of money and awareness for local charities, so... More
