Insight into the history

We visited the Stonehenge when it was completely empty, I'm told it is very rare for it to be not crowded. I especially loved the exhibit precluding Stonehenge.

This company provides a bus trip from Salisbury to Stonehenge and Old Sarum if you like. We took the train from London, then hopped on the bus to Stonehenge. Depending on the season, the bus picks up every hour or half hour. Then you can stop at Old Sarum and get the tour bus or a city bus (for free)... More

Paid for priority access but failed to see any kind of value in doing so. Seemed illogical that priority didn't start with access to the bus, instead of waiting behind people getting on the bus and asking lots of questions, deciding whether they would get on this bus or the next one. The bus ended up running late as a... More

The new (three years old) visitors centre at Stonehenge is well worth a visit, and don't miss the Exhibition Centre after you have bought your ticket - probably best to do this before you go to see the actual stones. There is a small bus that will take you up to the Monument (as it is called), which takes about... More

Well organized self guided tour from The visitors center via a 1 mile bus ride. If you're interested in ancient ruins this is for you. It's iconic.

obviously when you think of stonehenge you think of crusties going around drinking muddy cans of cider and bumming rollies of each other but the tour itself when the crusties arent there is actually good. 4* cos sometimes it gets VERY busy and there is a wait for the bus back to the tourist centre.

Historical. Great pictures on the right day. Drive up is scenic. I've been twice now, once in the early 90's. They continue to find new things surrounding the area. Summer solstice is a good time to visit! You would be allowed to enter and touch the actual site.

I have no words to express how unimpressed I was. Beyond disappointed is an understatement. I am interested in all things spiritual but I fail to see what is so magical about Stonehenge. It's a costly price of £15.50 each if you pay; i'm so pleased we didn't as we have English Heritage membership. I say costly because this is... More

We bought 2 tickets, 28£ per ticket. The bus arrived 30 minutes late at New Canal stop (Salisbury) and left even later as the driver didn't know how to handle tickets bought from other sources (bus shop or the Internet). It was supposed to arrive at 12,12 instead arrived at 12,38. Left aroung 12,50 On the way back the bus... More

English Heritage have organised this very well, with a great Visitor Centre. You park there, and are taken by free shuttle bus to the stones, where you can visit from a path which is very close. It is well worth getting an audio guide to give you as much or as little information as you wish. Very pleasant and helpful... More
