For some smaller museums, you go in with low expectations... this one was one. We had a voucher for the spitfire museum, which is in a upstairs area of the museum, and was available after watching a brief 2 min video. As always with these places, it is the volunteers who make the place, and can ask LOTS of questions.... More

Very friendly and informative staff for a large foreign group. They even found a German speaker in their volunteers to guide the fliers in the group on how to use the simulator. A very nice experience indeed, thanks to all at the museum.

Interesting local museum with Roman dress-up box for children. Would have liked to learn more about Tony Vandervell and his Company, but only a couple of small exhibits. The Spitfire exhibit would be worth a look but MUST be booked in advance!

The centre has a small, but excellent, permanent display of Maidenhead archaeology interesting to all age groups. It offers exhibitions, such as the current one on the now defunct Skindles Hotel, and features other attractions such as the current Spitfire simulator. Friendly volunteer guides can answer any questions.

I went to fly the Spitfire simulator and found it most impressive. The Heritage Centre is a little gem. We really enjoyed the exhibitions down stairs and the ATA Museum upstairs has some incredible items on display.

We moored our narrowboat and spent a day in Maidenhead. The Heritage Center is well worth a stop. Downstairs you are greeted by the friendly volunteers who staff the place and there is good info about the history of the town. But it's the upstairs that you must not miss! The "Grandma Flew Spitfires And You Can, Too!" exhibit and... More

I really visited this venue for the Spitfire simulator. I enjoy aircraft simulators and have tried several. This is a simple simulator but none the less very realistic and enjoyable. I had the half hour experience for the amazingly low price of £15.00. It is worth so much more. It is remarkably well put together and you really get the... More

Having moved away from Maidenhead my wife recently saw an advert for The Skindles Hotel Exhibition being held in the heritage centre. It was so worth the visit and the presentation brought back so many memories for us both. The Chairman, Richard, made us feel so very welcome and his knowledge was fantastic and to all his colleagues a very... More

Really enjoyed this heritage centre - the star of the show has to be the fabulous Spitfire simulator (loved every minute of it!), but the log books and personal stories of the Air Transport Auxiliary are terrific, too. They form a walk-in history of this extraordinary unit if male and many female pilots who ferried aircraft, unarmed and without radio,... More
