Spent a very enjoyable afternoon aboard the Dragonfly canal cruise. The crew Tim and Ellie could not be faulted they were both very friendly and efficient. It was worth going on the trip just to hear Tim’s speech to welcome us onboard, very funny as well as informative. The prices are reasonable for both tickets and refreshments and you’re welcome to bring your own on board too. The views are really lovely, such a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours no matter what the weather. Don’t forget to take a camera to capture the beautiful scenery along the way as you travel through a lock, and then you have the opportunity to disembark (only if you wish) at the aqueduct and take in the gorgeous scenery before travelling back. We were a party of four females who would all 100% recommend this trip to anyone who wants good value, beautiful scenery and relaxation as it has it all, we are definitely hoping to come back again.

The Brecon Basin is such a pretty area just to sit and observe the river activities. It is here that the Dragonfly Cruise Company board their passengers for the gentle relaxing cruise along the Brecon Canal.
Tim begins with a jovial introduction and then, a recording is played to convey background information on the canal and it’s history. As you chug along, Tim’s right hand man, zips around with refreshments (although you are welcome to bring your own) and is on hand to answer any questions.
At the mid-way point, you are welcome to disembark for a 5 minute leg stretch and photos of a very picturesque spot.
I took the opportunity to sit up top on the return leg and enjoyed hearing about the family business and some funny past onboard moments, from Tim as well as helpful tips and local pointers.
£9 well spent, I believe….!!

Would thoroughly recommend this little jolly along a pleasant waterway. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. It’s possible to enjoy light refreshments on board at very little cost. The trip itself is inexpensive and the scenery along the canal ( even in the rain ) is lovely. Thank you to Dragonfly staff for a lovely couple of hours.

Wonderful experience. We found out pretty quickly that we weren’t cut out to be sailors, much to the amusement of those watching us from the bank. After several minutes of being out of control of ‘Charlie Bucket’, the drama was brought to an end by a bump into the lovely Dragonfly Cruise Boat. Tom from Dragonfly managed to stay smiling throughout as he grabbed Charlie’s rope and climb aboard, and rather than our morning relaxing on the canal being abandoned, he chauffeured us for the rest of the two hours. Brilliant service! We thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the trip … which was peaceful and scenic … and we think Tom enjoyed himself too, he looked particularly happy when we shared the Welsh cakes that we had picked up from the conveniently situated Waterfront cafe around the corner. Five star service! Great morning out. Highly recommended. Just go easy on the steering!

We hired a self drive boat for 1 hour for £30, such great value for money! Really good fun, great views and a great little boat. Would recommend this to anyone in the area. Really worth it.

Fantastic 2.5 hour relaxing trip down canal, we try to go once a year, really cheap light refreshments served both going & coming back. Hand sanitizer at each table for customer use. Staff were wearing masks at all times but this was not the case with the customers when getting on & off the boat which made us feel uneasy. Lets hope by next year the situation will be different.

We had an enjoyable and relaxing day out cruising down the canal route as a family. It cost us £23 for 2 hours but the time went really quick. Easy to park (across the road from the quay) and easy to find the location. The prices for refreshments were cheap. A cup of tea and a can of pop cost us £2.10. Alternatively you can bring your own picnic food and drink. We stopped midway to adventure off the canal boat to take in breath taking views on the aqua duct. Make sure you have a camera at hand. In the beginning we were given historical facts about the canal and its importance it played in the industrial revoluntion. We found the information quite factually interesting. There is also a loo on board. The staff are friendly and approachable.
Definitely recommend this trip as its so therapeutic and value for money.

Horrendous customer service and communication. Booked for 6 on the canal boat at 3pm on Email (4 adults and 2 children), but not pre paying. When we arrived at 2:53 the man said that we we're ment to arrive quarter to 3 and that they had disgustingly sold our tickets to other people (probably to adults to get more profit). Now I would not be angry if the terms of booking would say that you would have to arrive quarter of an hour before the launch of the cruise. That would be our fault. But during the whole communications between me and Dragonfly there was nothing on this terms. On the website, leaflet and emails. It's not a plane, it's a pleasure boat. It has ruined our holiday. Horrible experience. Don't book with Dragonfly!!

Hello Catrin,
This is the only time I have ever responded to a trip advisor review as we believe that letting people see the good and the bad is a true reflection of a company. But there are some points I would like to make in response to your review, you claim to have arrived 10 minutes prior to 3pm, your name was called several times as you were the only group not here, at 2:57 two members of your group came to see us and this was then when I explained the situation, due to our one way boarding system and the fact that we had a family with a wheelchair waiting to get on the front section of the boat your seats were given away, the group in question who had your section was one adult and two children so your point about making profit is simply not correct. You were offered a £40 dayboat hire for free which you failed mention in the review. I do apologise for not stating the boarding time of 2:45 , this part was our fault and we take full responsibility for that, we tried our best to resolve the situation but you didn't allow us a chance. We would love the opportunity to rectify this mishap so extend a free booking should you wish to take it.

Took a cruise today whilst on a weekend trip from Cornwall.
Very easy to book with just a simple phone call.
The skipper's team were very polite, managed and observed Covid regularity conditions well.
A nice mini cruise, very reasonably priced, refreshments too!

Hired one of the daybosts today. The boat worked very well, and the people at the pickup were really friendly and helpful.
The canal itself is very pretty. Ideal way to get on the water for a couple of hours.
The boats have folding roofs if it rains.

How much for two adults
Is it near the Castle hotel
Written 19 October 2017
Can't remember cost but it was very reasonable. It is not near the Castle Hotel. It is next to the theatre over the other side of Brecon. Probably a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Castle Hotel.
