About
The Museum tells the fascinating story of four of the British army's most famous regiments. This long history, dating back to the 1680s, is told through many kinds of objects including uniforms, medals, weapons and models. The regiments have seen action in many prominent events, including the British campaign in South Africa (visit us and discover what really happened in the 1879 Zulu War!), And both world wars. Forty-three of the regiments' soldiers have received the Victoria Cross, and we commemorate their sacrifice and heroism as well as that of all the men and women associated with our regiments who have contributed so much to our country. - DD98766543217 contributionsLovely informative visitLovely informative war musueum. My eldest was going around reading all the information, and my youngest two enjoyed trying the uniforms on & the arts and crafts making warrior zulu shields. The lady with the long brown hair was lovely and showed them what to do.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 July 2024
- ChiefRNBristol, United Kingdom420 contributionsWonderful, interesting monument to one of Britain's finest regiments.A relatively small building set back from the main road, hides an absolute mountain of facts and items gathered over the last couple of hundred years. The ground floor area has a few rooms with various displays from different wars and the uniforms, weapons and equipment in use at that time. Its easy to spend an hour here enjoying the museum without getting brain overload!! The displays of medals including VC's are staggering. It a must see and very inexpensive.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 August 2024
- ironman16Manchester, United Kingdom148 contributionsHistory Brecons me!Must visit museum in Brecon, home to Welsh regiment and Gurkhas. I'm a big fan of the movie Zulu (although not 100% historically accurate) and madly interested in the whole history of Anglo Zulu war histor. Packed full of exhibits, war medal room, amount and a room dedicated to the battle of Rourke's drift in 1879. The dioramas were amazing. Made me very reflective of the impact of war and the sacrifices made by So many as well as the individual stories. So glad I finally made it here.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 August 2024
- Hannah MCardiff, United Kingdom1 contributionSchool visit for the World War Two Experience and museumI booked a trip to the museum as a teacher for our year 5 and 6 classes to take part in the World War Two Experience. The children absolutely loved the visit, they especially enjoyed the chance to go inside the Anderson Shelter, finding out about and playing with artefacts and replicas and viewing the museum collection. Both Abby and Janet were very welcoming and knowledgeable about WW2. I would definitely recommend booking an experience with them. If in the Brecon area, this is a must for anyone with a military interest. The Zulu Room was of particular interest for me and I spent ages looking around the displays. The Curator had very kindly agreed to show me an item of particular interest from the archives which I had requested in advance. She and the other staff were friendly and very helpful. As well as the Zulu Room, there are other areas showing the history of the Royal Regiment of Wales, together with an armoury room and a medals room.

I actually went to the Regimental Reunion at Derring Lines to meet with all my old comrades. I have visited the museum many times, it is well worth the visit. It is not large but packs in a lot of information on the South Wales Borderers (Rorke's Drift), The Welch Regiment (captured an American flag in the war of 1812) and their Anti descent Regiments (69th fought as Marines in the Revolutionary War under Nelson).

Amazing to read the history of the Welsh Fusiliers. Not only their role in the famous Zulu battle at Rourkes Drift but their battle honours in other campaigns and it is good to see many ex servicemen supporting this museum by donating their medals etc.
Very much worth a visit if you are in the area and inexpensive at only £5 for entry.

What a way to spend an afternoon, the history and achievements by so many brave men was amazing to read about, there is so much to see and well worth the entry fee. The staff are great, they are there if you need them but stay out of the way enough not to spoil the immersion you get when visiting this place.
When we went there were several families there and there is also some interaction that makes the day a lot less boring for the young ones. This is a place for anyone that has an interest in Military and also historical fact. They are disabled friendly as well so can be enjoyed by all. Great place, great exhibits, Great Day.

We found it an excellent experience and marvelled in the pride in the regiment. The person who was the guide on the day we were there was very knowledgeable and engaging and a true gentleman. He enhanced our visit and broadened our understanding. Above all the room dedicated to the battle of Rorkes Drift is a must and full of very interesting artefacts. It was on my bucket list since seeing the film in the 60 s and I am so glad to have finally achieved it.

We visited the museum after reading about the links with Rourkes Drift and the Zulu campaign. Spent time reading the wealth of information that was available. Lots of information tracking the history of the regiment. We came away with lots of real life stories which came alive reading the different letters and looking at the photographs. Well worth a visit!

Attracted due to the links with Rourkes Drift. No parking on site but plenty on street near by. Quite a small museum. Lots of exhibits but nothing interactive. The Zulu Anglo War exhibit was the star attraction for us and lots of information. Worth a visit if interested in the regiment or what they were involved in.
