The fortress sprawls over a huge area making it the largest castle in Wales. Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly. It dominates. Hogs the limelight. Think slumbering giant awaiting a call to arms. It's also a great backdrop for TV and film. It secured a starring role recently in the popular BBC TV series Merlin.

We very much enjoyed our visit to Caerphilly Castle, entry price reasonable as there is plenty of open space within the castle grounds to explore, plus the usual towers and other interior parts to examine, making the time fly by. There appeared to be a...More

This is a great place for families to come to, very clean and tidy, and lots to see. It takes about 1 to 2 hours to look around. A lot of history is linked to this castle and very interesting.

This is the best castle I've visited, my three year old loved that there was not one, but two moats! We very much enjoyed exploring the castle, views from the top are amazing. Lovely little shop for souvenirs, reasonably priced too. A well looked after...More

It may be the biggest castle in wales but by no means is it the best. Some interesting features remained, fireplaces and the like, but it was too commercialised and lacked any atmosphere. Awful, tacky features like people in dress up and plastic dragons made...More

The castle was absolutely fantastic. Great value, fantastic views from the roofs, costumed employees created an immersion while exploring the castle. While you do pay to get in, it is absolutely worth it. Oh one more thing, there be Dragons around

This was a complicated castle to figure out. Reading the signage, we discovered why this the most impressive castle in Great Britain. The car park is located on the other side of the castle and is a long walk over flat paved paths.

Enjoyed a visit here on a grey day last week. Parked on the road quite easily and walked through the park to approach the castle. As there is no cafe inside we ate at a local cafe opposite the entrance and then spent several hours...More

Enormous and imposing castle set in beautiful parkland. Despite being a 'ruin' was surprised how much was undercover, ideal on a wet day. Great displays around the grounds and in the buildings. So easy to lose 2-3 hours in here exploring the ramparts, towers and...More

Trebuchet or siege engines would have been used in attacking the castle when it was kept by William Marshal, the great knight. I saw one in use at Clytha last Sunday hurling green melons into the lake. It was newly... More

Yes, lots of information around the Castle about it's history, check the website because CADW have good events going on sometimes and the dragons outside are a must see.
