Welcome to Bute Park & Arboretum, an extensive area of mature parkland...

Welcome to Bute Park & Arboretum, an extensive area of mature parkland that forms the 'green heart' of Cardiff. The site is managed by Cardiff Council and recently benefitted from a major £5.6M restoration project, supported by a £3.1M grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which restored important historic features, provided new facilities and helped tell the park's fascinating story.

At 56 hectares (equivalent to 75 football pitches), Bute Park is one of the largest urban parks in Wales and comprises a broad mix of historic landscape, urban woodland, sports pitches, arboretum, horticultural features and river corridor.

Bute Park offers something for everyone including the Bute Park Education Centre, 3 wonderful cafes, toilet facilities, a woodland balance trail, sculpture trail, fitness trail and a varied events programme.

Easily accessible from the centre of Cardiff, Bute Park is listed along with Cardiff Castle as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape and contains the fascinating site of a former Blackfriars Friary which is a scheduled ancient monument.

The magnificent Arboretum contains 41 Champion trees, the tallest or widest of their species in the UK or Ireland, which is more than any other public park in the UK. Along with the rest of the rare tree collection, the stunning Herbaceous Border, and the range of wildlife present, Bute Park and Arboretum is worth a visit all year round.

Beautiful Park

A very beautiful and cozy park, with the perfect view of the castle. Lots of great spot just to sit and relax, or taking pictures.

Bute Park is easy to miss, when visiting Cardiff for sporting events, concerts, museums and shopping. It is a calm oasis if you like champion trees, bike riding paths, well maintained gardens, sculptures, flowering trees & shrubs & somewhere to have a lite bite & coffee. It's behind the Castle in the City Centre, if you follow the castle walls... More

Step through the gate from a bustling city centre into a beautiful park. Walk or rest for a few minutes or take a few hours to soak in the wonderful atmosphere. The parking is full of mature trees; indigenous and ornamental. The swathes of spring flowers were a joy to look at, plus the friendly squirrels were very entertaining. The... More

Tidy park, lovely to sit and chill with some food and a coffee. Views of the castle and civic centre, hard to imagine this park is smack bang in the town centre. The monk ruins are worth a look and the gardens are kept in mint condition. 🌲🍁🥀 A couple of nice park coffee shops ☕️and some beautiful walks, 👣the... More

Bute park is one of the most beautiful places in Cardiff. I usually visit it twice a week. In my opinion i can divide it into 3 parts. The first pard at the beginning of the park , just for walking in my breaks. Secondly, it's very big, there is a place where to many trees and plants, it's like... More

I think that disabled parking was near the Ambulance parking- there were some faded yellow painted bays, no signs & appeared normal width. This could be easily rectified- please? Park itself was beautiful even on a grey day- paths good gradient & camber for me. Magnolias & daffodils provided a welcome splash of colour. The Summerhouse cafe was good value... More

Had a nice walk across this park, was surprised to find a stone circle there! If you have bikes - there is a nice trail all the way to Long Wood nature reserve. Nice spot for picnics if you want to celebrate some occasions in open air.

Took my morning run around the castle and into Bute Park, which is an arboretum, and in full bloom with fields of daffodils. The tidy grounds stretched on past my distance for the day; I enjoyed the footpath by the canal, which featured steps for pups to use to get a drink! How kind.

This park is very central to Cardiff and we came upon it by chance while visiting Cardiff for the Rugby. It is very well kept and feels miles away from the city. Would recommend a wander here in the good weather, with well kept gardens, and waterside paths it is very relaxing and enjoyable. Seats are throughout for a rest... More

Bute Park is in the Grounds of the gounds of the Castle possibly a deer park in days gone by. The river Taff runs through it. Spend the day walking around the park, take a picnic run a 10k marathon, admire the beautiful flowerbeds. There are also many soccer pitches and parts of the old canal. A great peaceful venue.
