Be certain to schedule a visit to this little cemetery. The story it tells of the history of Belfast and indeed Northern Ireland is incredible. A little peaceful oasis, too.

I booked a visit with a member of Belfast City Council guides. It lasted just over an hour. The ground is uneven so it really isn't suitable for wheelchairs or for people with walking difficulties. It is small but has a very interesting history and...More

Firstly our tour guide Adrienne was excellent and very witty and knowledgeable. Friar's Bush is tucked away just off the Stranmillis Road in South Belfast near Queen's University. Highly recommended if you are visiting ( or not ) Belfast and want to know about some...More

Like something out of a macabre horror movie complete with ancient slopping headstones, hawthorn trees and spooky atmosphere, Friar's Bush Graveyard is a perfect Tim Burton style dream. I had the chance to visit with a few friends for a guided lunchtime tour on Tuesday...More

My wife and I did the Halloween Tour of the Friars Bush. Spooky at night, especially when you know that this was where lots of cholera victims were laid to rest. Also the inventor of Belfast Bap Barney Hughes rests here.

I was lucky enough to have Eamon Phoenix conducting a tour we did one Hallowe'en. Dr Phoenix, unlike so many historians, really has the skills and ability to bring history alive and make it interesting. Most noteably, the grave of Barney Hughes, the hugely successful...More

Fascinating glimpse into the past. Visited this cemetery during European heritage day in September when such places are opened to the public. Incredibly sad to see the life expectancy of children 100 plus years ago. Realise how lucky we are. Beautiful and haunting. Not manicured...More
