A History of Terror is the No.1 walking tour in Belfast. The 2 hour tour covers 2 miles and visits 8 sites in Belfast city centre where some of the most historically important incidents of the conflict known as 'the Troubles' took place. You will learn about the Troubles, discover the stories of the people involved, the reasons why the conflict started, how the peace process took shape and the journey to the active, vibrant city you see today. It is the only Conflict & Reconciliation Tour to have been awarded an 'Excellent' rating by the Northern Irish Tourist Board and has been named 'Belfast Tour of the Year' for 2017 by the Luxury Travel Guide.

Led by guides who are natives of Belfast and Conflict Historians, the tour is unbiased, educational and factual and has been described as 'Great value and a fantastic experience'.

From January 2017 the tour is available every day, but must be booked in advance. It normally runs in the mornings from Sunday to Friday, and on Saturday afternoons. Please email us to confirm times and availability or book online on our website.

I took a train from Dublin at 7:00 to see Belfast and had to return 2:00pm, so taking this tour was a perfect to get a very informed local's view (Paul'S) on the 70s-90s conflict and how the political, religious and historical events shaped the city and people of Belfast today. Anyone who enjoys history, politics and conflict, or simply... More

A truly excellent tour that provides an in-depth, non-partisan history of Belfast city centre during 'the troubles'. Our guide and Belfast-local, Paul, was highly knowledgeable, bringing the city's recent history to life through factual accounts, anecdotes, and historical photographs. Altogether it was a thoroughly enjoyable tour and highly recommended for anybody looking to get a good understanding of Belfast's, and... More

Being in Belfast for two days only, I searched at home for a tour that would offer more than just the main sights. I found this one, got into contact just the day before and was helped very kindly to get a tour on our full day here (thanks, Mark!). Our guide was Paul, and he really made me see... More

I had 24 hours in Belfast and booked two tours of The Troubles to get a feel for the place and time in order to do a final edit of an Afrikaans novel with a Troubles sub-plot. This tour was the first one, booked for the day of my arrival. Mark Wylie helped me personalise the tour via email after... More

Spent an interesting afternoon with Paul hearing all about the troubles history in Belfast. He brought it to life with personal family stories, researched stories and historical facts. He dealt with this difficult area in a balanced way. It was an easy walk with lots of stops to share information. This tour got the balance right and I would highly... More

Despite the slightly macabre name of the tour, dead centre tours has been researched with great sensitivity by Paul and his team. The narrative of the tour is extremely interesting and delivered in a very engaging way. Paul brings along a tablet to show the group historical photos that really bring Belfast city centre's past to life. It was very... More

Paul is a wealth of information and is able to discuss personal data that reflects the struggles BFS dealt with, along with detailed accounts of atrocities throughout the city. Paul - Just one piece of advice: a paper hand out with all the relevant parties (UDF, UDP, UUP etc) noting why the group were involved, who they were supporting etc... More

I found myself in Belfast for a EU project meeting and I happened to have some free time on March 29th 2017 - the Brexit day. So much to think about inclusion, common values, vision. I booked the tour just one day in advance, basing my choice on TripAdvisor reviews. I did not manage to convince my colleagues to join... More

The title speaks volumes. If you love historical walking tours, this is the tour for you. Out of 2 visits to Belfast, I must say this is the most memorable of all my tours both visits. Paul the tour guide was absolutely fabulous, and just a kind gem of a man in general. There were only 3 people inclusive of... More
