The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed it's doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within it's walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.During the tour of the gaol you will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, you will get a chance to sit in the Governor's chair, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned mans cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged.

An interesting place to visit, plenty of history to learn about. I think they have renovated it a bit too much would of been better to see it not freshly painted etc

They offer a guided tour which is ideal as you get to learn a lot and hear interesting stories about the prison. It has a long history and illustrates how people, including children, were punished for even very minor offences back in Victorian times but...More

The history of the jail was interesting, but i will say it was a bit corny. I was hoping for something more creepy.

Excellent and very informative tour given by Iain, a must if visiting Belfast. Cuffs restaurant is lovely and cosy and staff very friendly, we had already eaten which was a pity as the food looked great

I took Paddy Campbells taxi tour first (highly recommend) which filled me in on the history and then did Crumlin.

This can be a bit tricky as there are steps in a few places, also there is a fair bit of walking, but all at a nice pace.
