Continuing our visits to NTS properties we made the 50 mile journey on a Sunday. We picnicked upon arrival then walked a short distance to Craigievar Castle. Our guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable which added to the fantastic experience.

If you ever dreamed to live in a castle, Craigievar will give you the food for dreaming. The family only vacated this gem some years ago! The castle and grounds were re-done some years ago and the final product is amazing. This is best done...More

Very pretty castle which is about 100 yards from the car park. They only do guided tours so no wandering around on your own, but the guide was very interesting and knew most things about the history of the castle and the family. The tour...More

Really worth a visit. A beautiful and interesting castle and not as touristy as many others. You can only view the interior with a guided tour but the grounds are nice for a walk too. The tour is very worthwhile for the fascinating history and...More

Craigievar Castle is about 27 miles west of Aberdeen and it was raining but not too heavy when I arrived. The castle opens at 1030am and cost of entrance is £12.50 or if like me you have membership for the NTS then admission is free....More

We enjoyed this castle very much. The lock boxes for deeds and other valuables were fascinating. Lots of climbing up tower stairs.

Had a good guided tour around this pink delight. Very steep stone winding staircases so it you're no-good on your feet then this is certainly not for you. Look to be good walks in the grounds too.

In the middle of no where really, I would not really class this place as a castle, a very nice tall house. Tour guide only, in my opinion not enough history talked about. Plus you have to pay to park the car, £2.00, another N.T....More

This castle is a nice quaint example of Scottish castles. It isn't however worth making a big detour for. There are a million and one castles around Scotland. Nice nonetheless

This was on our list of must sees. we didn't realize that you have to take a tour to see the inside though. Tour was actually the best one we took out of the 27 castles we saw while we were in Scotland. It was...More

What buses or trains run near to it?

No trains head west from Aberdeen, Nearest station would be Inverurie, which is about 20miles NE of castle. There are busses that pass on the road a mile or two to the south of the castle but they aren't at all frequent.
