Established in 1965, and Aberdeen's original live music bar. This beautifully equipped, state of the art, 200 capacity venue is conveniently located where the harbour meets the city centre, between Union Street and nearby Union Square (where parking only costs £1 between 6pm and 4am). The bar boasts an impressive range of booze and specialises in absinthe, cask ale, cask cider, rum, tiki, and world beers. Live music appears every Friday and Saturday from 9pm-11pm, on an elevated stage. This typically showcasing touring bands with support from local acts. The venue is equipped with a sizeable dance floor and late night DJs on Friday and Saturday from 11pm-3am. The music on offer is of the alternative persuasion with a mix of rock, metal, punk, disco, funk, soul, electronica, and hardcore on offer, all on the same night.

Went to the pub with my Dad (77) and friends for The Johny Cash tribute night. It did not disappoint! As a cider drinker, I was in my element to see roughly 6 varieties of cider on tap...and not a Magners in sight...phew!! A nice selection of draft beer and ale for the old man too. As a customer in... More

A great bar & fantastic venue .Yes the name has changed' the interior tweeked a bit. But the Vibe is still alive and well. The last gig i played had Swiss ' German & American punks attend. A busy gig indeed. I say pop in for a gig/few drinks and make your own conclusions. You wont be disappointed

I visited this bar quite regularly a few years ago before the change to the new name and "Tiki Bar" theme and I have to say it was great. Unfortunately I had the displeasure of visiting this bar over the weekend and it has done downhill! The staff were very rude and seemed to spend more time talking to "regulars"... More

This used to be called Moorings and it was the best place to go for a drink, friends and atmosphere for the last 9 years. However right before it changed it's name from Moorings to Krakatoa, it has gone downhill. The service is horrible. The toilets are not as clean as other bars in the area. There are cover charges... In Aberdeen for the evening and after reading the reviews decided to give here a try. Got as far as the door and was asked to pay £5 each to enter. Not expecting to pay to go into a pub so politely declined and had a great night round the corner for free, spending around £50 on drinks.

Hi Bill, Krakatoa operates as a live music venue at the weekend. It's fully soundproofed, with a state of the art 25KW PA system, and a large elevated stage. We employ people to book, and promote our live music programme, as well as a sound engineer, security personnel, and a cashier to take tickets and entry fees on the door.... More

compact location, well equipped with PA system & fit for purpose, great venue & choice of drinks. sitting arrangement is rather non-existent, ie, don't look for 'cabaret' arrangement with tables, but staff polite and friendly.

Great bar opposite Harbour. Met owners Red Macaw called Chilli! So much atmosphere and they have live music regularly. Locals and staff very friendly. When I went to ladies toilet wasn't sure what to expect because bar is very dark, but toilets were amazing. Very plush and even had a fish tank to look at.Will be one of our haunts next... More

Well for those in the the know you will remember The Moorings as a rock bar, well Krakatoa is the same venue with the same cool vibes to suit all beer drinkers with a great selection to suit all tastes. Music from the great jukebox for followers of rock music and of course bikers are always welcome making it a... More
