Lovely place and a great hike. Be prepared with proper shoes and clothes but the views from above are wonderful.

Have been looking up at this 'tower' since the early eighties when I first started holidaying around the area but never visited. Not sure what I was expecting but it's actually just a pile of stones cemented together in a circle. You visit for the views, nothing else. If it's chucking it down with rain or a dreich day, go... Just go there, it has wonderful views over the entire city and the harbour. Wonderful flowers are arranged in the circle.

Up the hill there is this McCaig's tower with great view over the Oban harbour ; sea and Islands. Stiff climb uphill but really good to go there.

When you see the tower from the town, you can imagine a commanding view from it's top. When you hike up the steep hills to get here, however, it's still beautiful, but there's so much vegetation growing around it that the view isn't quite as nice as I'd hoped. Still really neat, though.

My daughter and I needed some exercise and decided to walk up to McCaig's Tower and see what it was all about. The Tower is fine but it was really the walk that was special. I delighted in the views and loved seeing where flowers were growing - they literally grow out of the side of the rock walls. The... More

We walked up to the tower to enjoy the view and to appreciate the scale of this monument. It really is worth the effort.

A rather steep walk up to the Tower, but you can drive. The Tower itself is a fabulous structure and garden. but the real pay off is the best views over Oban and through to Mull. If you feel up to it do walk up and see a variety of interesting houses and garden. Hey its free!

Old fortification that has a great view of the entire village. A fairly easy walk up or grab a cab.. lots of local history here as a lot of work was done to employ out of work stone masons
