this was the first time we had rode the red route at Ae and absolutely loved it. Trails were well set out and well maintained. everything rideable and doable even for the non too technical rider as myself. Some of the sections just flowed really well you didn't want them to end! Facilities great on site and café was nice... More

Did the six mile walk through the forest, absolutely beautiful, saw deer run across in front of us, loads to see if you like forests. Cracking walk.

I visited mid week to ride the Ae Line Trail having ridden Glnetress the day before. Ae is much quieter - I saw no other bikers on the trails, the cafe was really quiet too but the staff were really helpful filling up a camelbak, tokens for the showers etc. The facilities are not as 'plush' or extensive as Glentress... One of the largest forests in Britain, although we seen lots of lorries carrying logs out so maybe a bit smaller now! Lots of walks but felt the signage was clear for walkers than it was for bikes or horses (or their riders at least).

Went here after being recommended it by family. There are trails for walkers and mountain bikes. We ended up walking one of the mountain bike routes as the marking for the walkers were not all that clear at one point. After 6km we managed to get back on to the walkers route which was much more Pleasing to the eye!... More

We visited Ae forest to enjoy the walks there. There are also some great mountain bike trails. We chose to do the blue walk, a fantastic circular walk, which took us around the forest, with great views, and by the river. Lots of benches to sit and enjoy the view.

Lovely setting and walk along the river. Forest also has bike trails but these are mostly separate from the quieter riverside walk. Walking routes are clearly indicated follow the posts in the ground rather than the arrows which are for the bikes.

I traveled from Yorkshire to do the Red Route after reading various reviews and recommendations. Started early 7am and set off in light rain. The car park is teeming with signs showing you the way to go sadly after about 100 yards things go pear shaped. First junction there is a sign marked "all routes" which points you towards a... More

We enjoyed our stroll around the Forest of Ae on Easter Monday 2014. It's well sign-posted. I do feel though that as a walker you can't get far enough away from track cars are able to use into the forest. Perhaps a few more benches? I would say the path leading from the car park into the forest proper might... More

The Red Route is fantastic. There was 5 of us on this ride of various cycling experience and all of us got round easily. Don't get me wrong there are some tricky parts but you can bypass them if you wish. The 25km took us 2 hrs at a steady pace. The part called Granny Green Love was especially cool... More
