By far one of my favorite things I did while visiting Edinburgh! The tour leaves by a nice motor coach (I suggest sitting in the left side for the first part of the trip for the best views) and the sandwich lunch is a nice inclusion. Our guide Yvonne was bright, funny, and immensely knowledgeable on the history of the... More

We did the 3 day highland tour with Dave this past weekend. It was seriously awesome. Dave was super knowledgable, really personable, accommodating, and just overall a fantastic guide to have. We learned a ton and saw some AMAZING scenery. It was well organized and B&B accommodation was great. I don't have any complaints at all. Would recommend to anyone... More

Don't hesitate, book this now. Best tour I've ever been on. The weather was perfect so the views were breath-taking. Dave was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

I was in the Loch Ness Explorer Tour. Very beautiful view and everything, thé stories told by the guide were interesting but it is bus all along.. (12 hours). It would have been great to walk into the Highlands, take pictures and not see things through a window.

A visit to the Isle of Skye in March, weather must be bad, wrong got Sun burnt. Davey our guide was a full time laugh and what we don't know about Scottish history and especially the Jacobean rising does need to be known. A great group and would recommend the Rosebank B B Porteree .

We travelled on the Loch Ness day trip and it was wonderful. The day is filled with stunning scenery and you learn a huge amount about Scotland. The staff in the morning were very nice as well, thank you Mahri and colleagues. We will definitely recommend this company.

We would like to commend highland explorer tours for a fantastic picturesque tour of the Scottish highlands. We are awe struck by the snow covered mountains, flowing streams of clear water, the emerging colour of spring and the wildlife. Compliments to our guide Jamie S. for a joyride filled with amazing historical facts and trivia. What better way to enjoy... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
