A short bus journey from the centre of Edinburgh is this curious complex of underground chambers. The guided tour was very interesting and entertaining. There seem to be many theories about the cove's origin, function and those who created it. All in all well worth...More

Must say Gilmerton Cove is in a bit of strange location outside the city centre, and if we hadn't pre-booked tickets, we'd have probably turned back. However, really glad we stuck with it! Totally mysterious place, and the guide was fantastic! Well worth a visit!!

You will need to phone to check opening hours. Given that passages are narrow, they are limited to how many people can go down at a time. So pre booking might be advisable during tourist season.
