I love places like this... full of history, a little bit creepy, and very unusual. Venture into Mary King's Close with your tour guide and discover a hidden world under the city.

It was very interesting to see and learn how the poor people of Edinburg lived over the centuries. However, I felt the tour lacked some excitement and fun!

The tour takes an hour, and the guide is a character actor who explains what life was like for the common man living in Edinburgh long ago. And during the tour, we walked underground, from room to room and through passageways. It’s another piece of...More

Who knew a subject as horrifying as the Plague would be such an ideal vehicle for teaching what it's like to live in Edinburgh in the 1640s? They've done a brilliant job of incorporating anthropology, excavation, history and humor. Our guide Bethany was fabulous. We...More

Edinburgh is an incredible city to visit, and Real Mary King's Close is a GREAT attraction to visit. It's by (lively, colorful, detailed) guided tour only (Note: This is a very popular attraction that books-up well in-advance during peak tourist season). A "Close" is a...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Hello, As our tour is indoors, we wouldn't recommend wrapping up too warmly. Some of the rooms can be on the cooler side, but it isn't usually as cold as outside. Hope that helps. Kind regards, The Real Mary King's Close
