The underground city was really interesting and creepy. The guide did a great job making it fun and interesting. Highly recommended.

Went on this tour last year and it is still one of the most fun things we have done for a long time. The girls were 16 and 18 at the time and were laughing so much they cried. I was randomly chosen as a 'scapegoat' and they loved it. They felt part of the action. I thought it was... More

This tour was fantastic and our guide Cassandra was just awesome! Really interesting facts and history and visited a bunch of different sites. It wasn’t too much walking so would be fairly manageable for people who take longer or have a hard time walking. The underground vaults were fairly scary. Would absolutely recommend this tour!!! Only improvement would be to... More

the history of the old city is very interesting. Just knowing that they built a city on top of another is a story in itself and to walk among the dark corridors with tales of ghosts is kind of chilling.if you don't go on at least one of these ghost tours then you haven't seen the real Edinburgh give it... I don't understand why this tour has an overall rating between 4 & 5 stars. Firstly, the story tellers are dressed as ghosts but fail to scare even very small kids. Secondly, you spend the entire one hour in anticipation of something exciting that might happen, but are disappointed The list can be endless, but to sum it up, Please... More

We had a knowledgeable and friendly guide, who took us to the old Scottish Parliament, Greyfriars cemetary, and part of the old vaults. It actually wasn't all that ghosty, which suited me fine - I found the stories of the actual people to be a lot more interesting.

If you enjoy bad story telling and horrible puns this is the tour for you. Otherwise just save your money.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
