This tour was part of a girly night out in Edinburgh, group of 5. We were already a little hyper by the time we arrived (dark and cold at 6pm in January). I’m sure we apologised to the tour guide within minutes, think he was called Darren and was a good laugh and done the whole setting the scene really... More

We did the 8pm graveyard and underground tour and both me and my boyfriend really enjoyed this tour which was quite scary and not for the faint hearted. Darren our tour guide was very informative and answered questions well. Gave a good history of greyfriars graveyard Only downside was I thought they'd be more to the underground part of the... More

Omg!! You got definitely got to do this tour if you are into the Paranormal!! Esther was our tour guide, great knowledge about history of Niddry St Vaults. She was brilliant. Niddry St Vaults were amazing and scary at the same time. I heard and seen stuff while I was in the Vaults. I would definitely go back in there... More

Don't bother if you're expecting to learn anything much. Minimal history. Great if you like ghost stories though.

There was some great storytelling here and a few fun facts along the way. If you're open to the other world (our love of Sam and Dean requires us to be), you're in for some spookiness and scares too! Our only complaint (if you can call it that), was that the tours offered are all very similar although the sign... More

With many ghosts and underground vault tours starting later in the day, I was glad to find one I could go on. I went on the 2pm tour which lasts 45 minutes. The guide mentioned some history then took us underground where we visited a couple of vaults. After watching Ghost Adventures I was looking forward to this. athese vaulta... More

We went on the underground tour because I am unable to walk very far. We met at 17.00 and walked down the hill where our guide (Anna?) explained that the tour was inside the vaults of a long disused and forgotten bridge crossing a valley. To get into this we went UP into the now redundant bridge arches, now covered... More

Such good fun, and super spooky in the vaults. Anna was our guide, she was very knowledgeable and made the history fun. We were a little spooked so glad the tour only lasted 45 mins ha ha

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
