This monument offers views at the top of the tower, but honestly you'll already get those views for free when you reach Calton Hill park area, in which this monument is located. It's not worth the fee to go inside. Outside (and free) you can...More

First, not to disrespect Lord Admiral Horacio Nelson, whose monumental achievement in a war 200 years ago had lead to the construction of the monument. In terms of visiting, first it costs GBP5 to gain access to the viewing area of the tower. The viewing...More

Had a look at the Nelson Monument today with my daughter after we climbed up Calton Hill. Built in memory of Lord Nelson, who died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Admission is £5 per adult if you wish to climb the monument. We...More

Beautiful views over Edinburgh although it is very windy and not for anyone who doesn't have a head for heights! The walk up is a bit strenuous. The entry fee is £5 which adds up if there's a few of you, especially given that you...More

Spectacular views for £5. If you aren't adventurous enough to do Arthur's Seat and you have already made the climb up Caton Hill, take the in-between physical challenge of these stairs by going up the tower. Apparently the ball is supposed to drop every day...More

Worth the £5 entrance fee and the climb for panoramic views over Edinburgh and across the Firth of Forth. Not keen on heights but did not find it a problem. Small exhibition on Nelson/Trafalgar on ground floor.

Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to
malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton
have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a
