I really love the Cameo. It's bit of unique, little gem among Edinburgh theatres and cinemas. Unique architecture and furniture, a lovely cafe (maybe the service here could be bit more efficient), a few but elegant movie theatres. I guess what makes this place special is the atmosphere - charming, welcoming, and overall authentic.

We were in Screen 2 and it was tiny but despite that this place is wonderful. Everything, from purchasing the tickets to the snacks on sale - together with the films being presented - are exactly what cinemas should be.

I really enjoyed my trip to this cinema. So unique and lovely. Saw a film in screen 1 and it was just beautiful. So authentic. I also loved how the seats reclined! Bliss!

Just a quick trip up to see I, Daniel Blake (10 out of 10, but that's another review) lovely cinema, nice bar, great service, comfortable "reclining" seats, clear picture with excellent sound quality. It was worth the 120 mile round trip. One negative, nothing to do with the cinema though.... what a job to park the car nearby, but understand... More

Cameo was the best hangover cure for me today, for which I am very grateful! Having been on a hen weekend, which had come to and end on Sunday morning, I had a lot of time to kill before my flight (by which point everyone else had gone home on the train). Seeing that they had a 1pm showing of... More

love this type of traditional cinema. cheap ticket prices, reasonably priced drinks and confectionery. bar attached too if you prefer a stiffer drink. screen was spotless and so comfy and relaxing, the chairs even reclined! excellent experience. highly recommended.

Nice to be in a traditional cinema. The film we saw was a bit silly. But the room and seats were really comfortable. The cafe/bar was really nice, a good place to sit and read/have a beer etc. Would return (for a better film this time).

One of the bets independent cinemas I have been too. Lovely décor and friendly staff. Support local independent cinemas! We only visited for a mainstream film but unlike bigger multiplexes this cinema also screens independent films and older movies through special screenings! I would recommend checking this cinema out and its definitely worth the extra couple of minutes walk from... More

This business needs more local support, we watched Captain America May 2016, the main cinema had approx. 20 people in with a capacity of approx. 200. Our friends went to Cineworld and the hall was packed, there is something wrong with the local perspective when a smaller company trying to give a more independent view on smaller films whilst showing... Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
