Cobbled stones and secret passages line one of Edinburgh most famous streets as you walk the mile to the Castle! Coffee shops, souvenirs and landmarks make this such a pleasant walk not to be rushed. You won't be able to resist a whiskey tasting detour,...More

Castlehill is basically the upper part of the "Royal Mile" that runs quite steeply down from the Castle Esplanade to Lawnmarket and would have formed an impressive arrival point to visitors. Also, historically, it was the area where witches were tried before being burnt at...More

The Royal Mile is my favourite part of Edinburgh that we explored, and Castlehill is part of what makes it great. The cobbled street, the old buildings. There's a lot to appreciate on your way to the castle.

The Royal Mile is actually made up of a number of sections, Edinburgh Castle at one end with Castlehill at its door step, before heading down Lawnmarket to High Street This cobble stone street is "steeped" in history

Our son loved the cannons and generaliy enjoyed the visit. We had tea in the tea rooms, which was expensive, over 20 quid for three drinks and cakes, and they served the scones cold and all the staff were foreign. Whilst it's great they can...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its

that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
