Went with some work colleagues for a pre-conference breakfast. The service was ok but apart from 2 or 3 others, we were the only ones there at 8.00am. The building was quite grand but whilst the food was reasonably priced and plentiful it was rather greasy. Been to better Weatherspoon's places but ok I suppose.

The place is too nice, we meet a spanish girl (waitress), like always :) and my parents could talk with her about the food because they don't speak english, the meal is fine for the price, their food is normal, hamburger, macarroni, salads, potatoes, good beer and cider, not elegant food but for me is worth it. The only bad... More

We ate there with friends and also for breakfast and dinner while staying in Edinburgh so probably spent well over £100. Our last night in Edinburgh my husband was asked to remove his Canada baseball hat by the security, I looked around the bar and three people also had baseball hats on so I asked for a manager at the... So many different beers in an amazing environment. Perfect for lunch, less crowded and lower volume. Good prices. Light and sunny because of the glass roof.

Don't bother to go here to have a drink and socialise. We were here on a night out, bar staff miserable and the door staff are even worse. It may be cheap but it's not a nice atmosphere.

I mean, you can't complain -- it's a Wetherspoon with 'spoon prices! Cheap, cheerful place for a pint and a bite for lunch. I frequently go here for lunch if I'm on Prince's Street. Service is good, the place is clean and tidy. It looks more grand on the outside than it is, but it's not particularly scabby indoors --... More

The place is huge ! I always manage to get a table, though the place is always full and crowded. This is the cheapest bar I found near princess street and Rose steet. A varied selection on the tap, drinks are very moderately priced. Food is typical bar food but I like their chicken wraps.

I had been out for a curry with my wife & daughter. My two companions had found the curry a little on the spicy side and requested that we call in somewhere so that they could have a port & brandy each to settle their stomachs. (I did not want a drink.) We came across the aptly named Standing Order.... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
