Colin Brown met us at the Royal Oak Bar - a fitting Rebus haunt. After introducing us to Rebus, he took us on a walk that covered some of Rebus turf, but also wandered along Edinburgh's streets with a fabulous view of Salisbury Crags on...More

Maybe it was the gathering point, a small wooden box of a public bar, a drunk's stagger off the Mile, engendering a feeling of mild claustrophobia; maybe it was the cobbles' moist sheen of drizzle dampening the spirit; maybe it was that intermittent rain, sometimes...More

I think the tour could have been better if Colin had wanted to venture outside of the University area. New Town is not that far away. Many of the stops had nothing to do with Rebus. One of our stops was in a garbage strewn...More

We decided to do the tour because it was a nice day and one of our party was an Ian Rankin fan. It was fantastic! The guide, apart from knowing his Rebus-lore, is also a wealth of information on Edinburgh and Scottish history which made...More

I have always felt that Ian Rankin books were a love letter to Edinburgh. This tour didn't really do it for me. Not enough Rebus or Edinburgh as far as I was concerned. A few interesting snippets but that was about it.

The guide was entertaining and very informative. As an Ian Rankin fan, it was great to see the locations from the books. Excellent value and good, good fun. Be sure to dress well if it's a cold or rainy day. LOL

Enjoyed the tour and enjoyed Colin. Colin does a nice show and the tour is a nice balance between John Rebus/Ian Rankin and Edinburgh history. One suggestion: when it is raining as it was when we took the tour, use your knowledge of the area...More

Very informative and amusing tour. Colin's readings from the books have inspired me to start the Rebus series from the beginning!

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
