The Edinburgh Military tattoo is an annual series of Military tattoos performed at the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and International military bands and display teams. This is held during the month of August each year which coincides with the Fringe Festival and International Festival. This really is a must when visiting Edinburgh and really provides for the experience of a lifetime. Dress warmly for the outdoors as the seating in the esplanade is uncovered.

The Tattoo was a little expensive, but worth the price. Many beautiful uniforms and nice fireworks as well.

The whole idea of the tattoo was to celebrate Scottish regiments, history, traditions etc etc. In recent years they seem to think that they need to diversify, and have engaged all manner of obscure and irrelevant items. if we went to a show celebrating Japanese...More

Amazing show, definitely worth a one off experience. All seats seem to have a good view but worth sitting at opposite end of castle for end part of show

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

I would take a ship’s tour to be on the safe side. Otherwise you might not make it back.
