We went to the shop for a watch building experience for my husband's birthday. From the minute we walked into the shop the experience was fantastic. You can tell there's real care behind the brand and the experience. I was an observer and we were offered drinks immediately along with some nice Scottish shortbread. We were aware of the brand but the explanation behind the business really drove home the reasoning behind the beautiful simplicity of the designs. Each option and variation was explained and the thought behind the design as well as the options that currently weren't in stock in store. We had a fantastic time, felt really looked after and came away with something to be cherished for a lifetime! Thank you Dale, we had a fantastic experience that we will remember for a very long time!

Didn't know this existed! Lovely watches in the St James centre. Couldn't do the full watch building experience as we were on way to dinner but was still able to choose strap and buckle with option of engraving. Really nice watches too! Staff soooo welcoming and made our visit very enjoyable. Hope to book into full experience on our next visit to Edinburgh.

My Wife bought me this experience for Christmas spending £175, knowing my love of watches as I do have a small collection. The experience was actually in London. Whilst I didn't expect to building a watch from scratch I did expect to be exposed to a real watchmaker in a watchmaker's workshop. This is just a retail shop and the experience is choosing a watch face and strap and having it put together by a young girl who has been with the firm 5 months. Pleasant enough but not a watchmaker. The watch is over-priced for what it is. You can't even read the date window without a magnifying glass. The "free" engraving was not offered. Now at £245 this is an experience in my opinion to be avoided.

I purchased a watch for my husbands birthday while on holiday from NZ back in early July. Unfortunately by the end of July a few of the hands had fallen off the watch face and impeded the mechanism. Although Kartel did repair the watch, because of the distance it took over a month between us posting the watch and receiving it back. Now, only a few months later, the watch has stopped working completely. I have requested a refund or replacement and my email has been ignored. I would not recommend purchasing from here at all, unless perhaps you live in Edinburgh and can constantly walk back to the shop for repairs!

I arrived at the Kartel shop in Kings Cross and was offered tea, coffee, whiskey or water. Being a cold day I decided to have coffee. "Sorry you can only have black coffee as we don't have any milk and we don't have a fridge in the shop". I ended up having water as I'm not a whiskey drinker. Next we were given a brief history of the company and then shown a selection of watches and straps. One watch face caught my eye. Then it was just a case of choosing the strap. Job done I thought. No. Sorry I don't have that strap in stock. If you want that one you can come all the way back to London again to collect it. "Well why couldn't I have the display one" Because I can't guarantee that one in case it has scratches on it. On inspection I couldn't see any scratches, but she still wouldn't sell it to me. I was beginning to think I was living in some sort comedy sketch. I got so fed up with the whole experience that I ended up with an ok watch, but not really the watch of my choice. Then I asked about the engraving that was meant to be part of the experience. "Sorry we don't do engraving in this store. You would have to go to our Scottish store to get that done" Nooooo.Overall a complete shambles of an experience.

I purchased a watch here in March 2023. The process in store actually went find, although the watchmaking experience essentially involves picking a case, picking a strap then getting the back engraved if you want it.

When finalising the sale I was told the strap wasn't in stock, and would take a few weeks to arrive. Fine I thought, no problem. However, from this point onwards it took a long time to sort everything out, and the customer service on the Kartel side wasn't great, in fact it was practically non-existent.

I was initially told it would take a 2 or 3 weeks to come back in stock. After hearing nothing after 3 weeks I called, to be told the same thing again ("a few more weeks"). After a month a manager intervened and told the shop to give me a different strap so I could at least wear the watch I had paid for. Over the next four months numerous deadlines passed, with no updates from Kartel; I was never contacted on their initiative, and every time I had to call them for an update. Each time I was told "a few more weeks".

I was eventually guaranteed delivery by a certain date, otherwise I would be provided with a refund. That deadline came and went, and when I called for news (again, they didn't call me, I called them), the manager I had previously spoken to was on holiday and hadn't left any instructions. So nobody had a clue what I was talking about.

Eventually in mid-July, four months after the purchase, I received a call from a manager (after prevouisly phoning the shop that day and asking to be contacted) to tell me the strap would arrive imminently - and it finally did a few days later. On that call, I was promised a refund as a gesture of goodwill, but that hasn't materialised, which I suppose reflects the rather loose management they seem to have of customer service as they have no doubt forgotten about that promise.

The watch itself is nice. I'm not sure if it's worth the £215 I paid for it, but it has the novelty value of being a Scottish watch. Less than six months later, the same watch costs £265, a price hike of more than 20%. However, it would have cost £175 had I bought it in the autumn of 2021, and even today it is being sold online in the USA (by aristorwatches) for $130!

I'd give an extra star to reflect the enthusiasm and friendliness of the staff, but in general the customer service doesn't seem to have developed in line with the company's growth, and what should have been a fun experience has only been a source of hassle.
