The cinema is fine but overpriced given that its clearly not a modern screen. The majority of staff are nice and helpful, the management is rude and lazy. One woman was left to deal with a full screenings worth of people and was still cheerful, the manager however when very patiently asked if there would be any chance of a refund given the site had given the wrong time screening bluntly replied that the tickets were for the wrong time... truly insightful. Having waited 15 minutes for this response we missed the start of the film which we payed full price. Given its the only cinema in the town its obviously happy to just ring out as much money from its customers as it can. There is no function to actually book seats, and the covid regulations are worryingly absent barring those enforced by individuals. If you want to see a movie, Dundee isn't too long on the bus.

Staff were absolutely horrible to us, they shouted abuse at us fron afar. Don’t even get me started on the spying they done on me and my wife while putting out private details in. Absolutely horrid place, never again. Seats weren’t cleaned, bogeys everywhere and little kids screaming, couldn’t get worse, -1/100 :)

Booked online, selected adult, teen and student tickets after film selected. Once your money is taken the website advises you to screenshot confirmation as they have problem with their emails- not a great start.

Arrived at the cinema where a very rude older woman points at the screens for you to collect your tickets (there are no other customers and she is doing literally nothing).

We started to order popcorn and she tells us we all need ID to get in to a 15 film and she wouldn’t want us to spend any more money and not get in, guess what they have a no refund policy so she doesn’t actually care.
Parents word is not taken for the age of teens and students must provide proof or “upgrade” to an adult ticket. Complete scam from start to finish. No wonder the cinema is empty.
My youngest son (who is 15) and I went to see a 12A as that was acceptable to the rude staff without birth certicate or passport.
The cinema is old, the seats uncomfortable and worn and the staff rude beyond belief. The worst that St Andrew’s has to offer.

Amazed at how inexpensive this first class evening was.

Last minute decision to go out had us book tickets at cinema. And it was amazing. Staff were so cheerful and prices so low.

Best cinema experience ever

One of only two cinemas in Scotland still to have a balcony. Yes, its dated and Screens 2 and 3 are rather small but what other town the size of St Andrews has a functioning three screen cinema showing current releases?

If possible get tickets to the balcony in cinema 1, order some wine or a beer and enjoy yourself.

Some of the reviews on here compare it unfavourably to modern cinemas. That misses the point. In fact its plain dumb. This is a traditional small town cinema doing its best to survive in the nexflix era. It's not trying to compete with Odeon and Cineworld.

And old fashioned charming picture house with old fashioned awful rude service.

I suspect the triumvirate who operate the front of house are used to sneering at the (mostly) student clientele, but I am not a student. I am, for the most part, polite and reasonable, but this was beyond a joke.

It went something like this....

I was queuing with my son, and four others behind us, whilst the person who should have been serving at the ticket office was gossiping with the woman behind the confectionary counter. She eventually deigned to come and sell us a some tickets. I then went and tried to order some drinks. However the man who was to take the tickets was busy recalling the woman behind the counter about a recent small lottery win. All very interesting, but....

Then it got really quite unpleasant in a completely surreal way. I ordered two drinks, a large Coke and a medium Diet Coke. Not, I am sure you will agree, a complicated order. I was then given a medium coke and a small Diet Coke. Easy mistake to make you would think, but no. When I (very politely) pointed out the error, I was assailed with a clear, definite, abrupt and down right rude "naw ye didnae!" In an accent akin to a Stanley knife cutting into plate glass. I was completely staggered and taken aback. Why had this become an existential challenge to her self worth, I thought to myself. Especially when I wanted to spend more money with her than she had allowed me. I more firmly said this time 'yes I did'. Queue my change slammed down on the counter and a glare that would have turned most mortals to stone. So unpleasant, so rude, and so unnecessary.

I understand this is an independent picture house. If so its days are numbered with staff as rude and disinterested as this.

I was going to say 'avoid at all costs', but in this day and age of generally good helpful service, I would actually recommend you go round there for a good old fashioned roasting, or maybe a bit of baiting. Weird.

I loved this place. So much character, I could feel the history. Yes, the screens were small but that is part of the charm and experience. Great to be able to see a modern film in such historic surroundings.

Beautiful entrance area. Tickets are well priced. Staff are ok. However we were in cinema 3 and it is terrible. I know these small cinemas don't have the mega screens or sound like the big soulless multiplexes. But i expected better than what we got. The seats are so uncomfortable and the view of the small screen is shocking. Terrible place

Visited this cinema recently. I would advise not taking a child over the age of 13 to this cinema as they are charged adult price even though I was eligible for a student discount my 13 year old son was apparently not eligible for the child price or student which meant his ticket was more expensive than mine. They also charge a booking fee when you pay by card at the ticket machine. my son imagined them saying "ok here are your tickets. Wait what? you actually want to see the film? Sorry I am going to have to charge you extra for that"
They only take cash at the box office.

Have been going to this cinema for over 60 years, first on summer holidays and now having retired to Fife. I go happily on my own or with friends and always find the staff friendly and the prices lower than in big cities. There is normally no need to book on-line, just pay when you get there. They also show live National Theatre, Ballet, Opera performances which are marvellous and better than being in a huge theatre in London at great expense Please stop criticising it as people who live here would be devastated if this lovely old cinema wasn't here any more.
