This great resource only opens it's doors to the public once a year, but when it does occur, it is an opportunity not to be missed.

At GMRC for ''Mackintosh and the Four' ,one of their programmed talks. Anna, the art historian, was an excellent guide, informative, interesting and entertaining. The walk around the building itself was worth a visit itself! A very enjoyable afternoon.

I have been to a number of one hour tours at the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre this year. Tours are varied - eg: you can go on a tour of the highlights of the art collection - where you will see paintings from different eras, or visit to see a collection of evening and wedding gowns from the 19th century,... We have visited the resource centre several times but on my latest I took my grandson to an event for young children. He really enjoyed it, as did I. It was about the Roman Empire in Scotland. The centre is not like the traditional museum. It is essentially a collection of storerooms, but hi tech. Lots to see. Lots of... More

I had a difficult time just trying to come up with a title for this review. It just shows you should always read the small print. This resource centre is mentioned repeatedly in the museum leaflets that are available when you go to visit the other museums in Glasgow. We spent an hour and a bit there, and we were taken... More

This place is amazing and enormous. We had a general tour which gave a "flavour" of the centre and the exhibits but we'll definitely be back for one of the specialist tours. The guide was very well informed and enthusiastic. Remember you must book in advance and there is a maximum of 15 per tour.

Well worth the trip out of the city centre, handy for train and easy to find by car, good parking. Fab opportunity to see artefacts not normally on public view and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. The hour just disappeared, will definitely go back, maybe for one of the more specialised tours next time. And all free and for nothing!

The Museums Resource Centre is essentially a big store or warehouse for all the items in the Glasgow Museums collections which are not currently on display in one of Glasgow's museums. Visits are by arrangement, and if you can I recommend asking for a visit focussed on an area which particularly interests you. I have visited twice, once with a... More
