The journey is a bit boring on leaving Inverness, but scenery soon improves 20 mins later and improves as it goes further. this journey needs to be booked in high season as it is run by Scotrail as a public service and can become quite crowded.

This line is sometimes referred to as 'one of the great railways journeys of the world" but there are better trips in Europe and even in Scotland where it is easily surpassed by the Fort William to Mallaig 'Jacobite' line. This is not to say that it is a bad trip, merely that it doesn't live up to its hype,... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our trip from Nairn into Inverness then onto the Kyle of Lochalsh. Chose to do this midweek as we were on a flying trip our if Scotland for a week. This broke my driving up a little. The views are spectacular. Well worth the £50 return price. Plan your day before you go. We took a 5 hour... More

The journey from Inverness to Kyle is a wonderful experience and breathtakingly beautiful. Looking toward the village of Applecross across the water, with the boats moored looks idyllic. We were fortunate enough to catch a glance of an Otter playing in the water. It is the third time have taken that trip, every one of my visitors is taken on... More

We booked this as a day trip from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. Arrived just after lunchtime and had a pleasant afternoon in Kyle. After reading other reviews we travelled on the right hand side out and the right hand side back both times facing direction of travel. This did prove to be a good choice. Fantastic scenery and fantastic... More

This line is rightly renowned as one of the UK's most scenic. You will see mountains, lochs, villages and wildlife along the route. Counted almost a dozen deer on my last trip (not passengers, viewed from the train!). Plockton is a lovely little village. Strathcarron and the mountainous areas around Achnashellach are breaktaking. You will get great photos from the... More

Just back from a return trip to the Kyle of Lochalsh on the Kyle Line. On the way to Kyle try and get a window seat on the right hand side (facing direction of travel) the scenery is best viewed from that side. Similarly on the way back from Kyle sit at the left hand side (facing direction of travel).... More
