A romantic fairy-tale castle that has been the home of the Thanes of Cawdor since 1370, Cawdor has evolved into a charming family mansion and the most outstanding of stately homes. The dramatic medieval tower, dungeon, turrets, battlements and drawbridge, belie an enchanting interior of fine art, tapestries and furniture which create the warm and welcoming feel of a home rather than a museum. The castle, set in stunning grounds with three beautiful and varied gardens, is surrounded by the magnificent Cawdor Big Wood, one of the finest woodland areas in Europe, threaded with colour coded nature trails to explore.Visitors are invited to enjoy a delicious lunch or tea with home-baking from our mouth-watering menu in the courtyard café, then browse the exciting range of gifts and goodies in our three shops and, time permitting, have fun on the putting green and short 9-hole golf course which provides enjoyment for all standards.

You can spend hours walking the many gardens surrounding the castle. Everything was in bloom and beautiful. The cafe served delicious food especially the squash soup.

Good place to visit after visiting Culloden battlefield. Nicely maintained and an fairly extensive garden area.

Cawdor is one of those castles we enjoy seeing again and again. Interiors are less a museum and more 'lived in'. Which it is. It gives the castle a more homey feel, more inviting as you walk through it. Beautiful flowers are arranged within as...More

Saw Cawdor last week and it is my favorite of this trip of which was saw 6. Feels very homey and lived in which the Dowager Countess still calls home. Loved the architecture and history and would recommend.

My family visited Cawdor Castle on a Monday in mid-September, and it was not too busy, and plenty of parking. Be aware you are not allowed to bring backpacks inside. The grounds are absolutely spectacular, with huge old trees, beautiful formal gardens, and natural walking...More
