- juliap7 contributionsFab walksBeautiful place for walking. We love taking our wee one here, she enjoys the nature, scenery walks taking it all in. Plus side she gets great exercise and gets exhausted. Cafe average, older staff need to be kinder to the younger ones, bring them on not down. Love the the square area of grass at the bottom dealing more exercise running about with a ball.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 April 2024
- christine W60 contributionsFabulous locationVisited the country park with two children aged 8 and 10. First of all it's free. We took a walk through the woods and by the river, it was beautiful and peaceful and the kids enjoyed exploring. They had cake in the cafe and spent another hour in the play area. Definitely worth a visit and a relaxing way to spend a day.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 June 2024
- MELODY JGlasgow, United Kingdom82 contributionsChatelherault Country ParkI enjoyed my time in the green area, which was a well-trimmed grass field, perfect for picnics and sunny dates. Chatelherault Country Park is a country park in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located in the village of Ferniegair, 1+1⁄4 miles from Hamilton town centre. On the west side of the park, runs the Avon, a tributary of the River Clyde.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 October 2024

First time visitors will find plenty to do. A visit to the House is well worth it and there are fantastic walks with beautiful views all around the estate. Currently, a Market runs on a Sunday afternoon, which is a good mix of food to eat or take away, and other items. Chatelherault is deal for so many people - dog walkers, children, cyclists, walkers, people interested in history, nature and so much more. It has an excellent play park, plenty of parking, a cafe and is easily accessible by all. You might even catch a glimpse of the famous White Cattle.

We've seen the sign often but too the opportunity to visit and had a lovely afternoon. The trees were spectacular with autumn colour everywhere and the indoor exhibition about the estate was very informative. Nice gift shop and cafe too. Plus great views across the Lanarkshire countryside.

Good place for walking, plenty of trails, lovely lawns and adventure playground for the children. Cadzow Castle was inaccessible and covered in scaffolding so not worth walking over especially to see it. Interesting displays in the building about the history of the area and the house, but we didn't have much time to look at these.
The only thing which was very disappointing was The Oaks Cafe onsite. The staff were friendly but when I asked about what allergens were in a particular cake, a member of staff told me she didn't know because she had thrown the packaging away. Not very impressive as it meant I couldn't risk eating the cake as I have multiple dietary requirements. I was, however, able to find a pre-packaged item with the relevant allergen information and I enjoyed that. Perhaps just a little more training for the staff in that area would be helpful.

40p/KWh. It is now 70p/KWh. Additionally, they have recently started charging £30 if you stay for an hour or longer.
Since the railway station is a 4 minute walk away, and they charge 40p/KWh, with no sanction for time, the operators have made an I’ll-judged and greedy decision (imo).
I used to come to Chatelherault often and have spent a lot of money in their café and gift shop, but no more.
Very very angry.

This is a beautiful place and the house is amazing however I will give the cafe a miss in future. Coffee and tea served were not good and the ladies who served us need to get a different job as they were both miserable and did not want to be there. It appears there is a lack of interest with the staff in general none of them seem particularly happy to be there. As for the quality of food and bad service in the cafe this has been highlighted on numerous occasions in previous reviews to Laura Cleland (The Manager) since 2017 and quite clearly has not been addressed as there are still ongoing issues.

this is a lovely park and a beautiful stately house. Many places to visit here including a cafe which has an outside are where your dog can accompany you. Easy access to the cafe but a slight slope at the entrance. A nice little shop and museum. Wedd ings are held in the stately house and gardens are of french design and well laid out.

Beautifully restored hunting lodge and hege country park with ancient forest and oak trees. The rooms can be viewed in the hunting lodge and there is a beautifully restored ceiling in the main building. Lots of information on the history of the the lodge and about woodland plants and animals. I would avoid the cafe as the staff were surly and unhelpful on the two occasions I visited.

Had a great 2 hour walk at Chatelherault today.
After getting back to my car it then took 80 minutes to leave the park.
Traffic was busy due to the market , but the traffic management they had in place was making things worse.
In the event of an emergency there's no way any emergency vehicles could have gained safe access. This made me wonder how they ever got a permit to fir the market.
The park shouldn't be given any large events until they have made it more accessible.

We're lucky as this wonderful place is nearby so we visit it often. The building itself is stunning, with the formal and herbal gardens surrounding it just adding to its charm. But for us it's the glorious walks that do it - a gorge, a long elegant bridge over the gorge, the remains of Cadzow Castle overlooking the bridge, ancient oak trees, riverside walks. It's simply stunning even after all the years we've been there.

This is a great place to visit when we're staying with our daughter and family who live nearby. The building itself is very beautiful and the grounds and various walks around it are fantastic. Last time I visited with my daughter there was a lovely craft fair with lots of interesting stalls and a choice of some different Christmas gifts. The shop is lovely, too, and the café looks really good but unfortunately, it was packed the day we visited and only appeared to be one person serving.

Are there picnic benches available or simple seat benches ?
Also wondering if there is a bandstand?
Written 16 October 2020
There are seats nearer to the house. The flat area we picnic at has no picnic benches or seats. We take a picnic blanket. No, there isn’t a bandstand.

Would you beable to get married by a Scottish humanist society celebrant here in the grounds somewhere? And take some wedding photos the wedding party is only 4 people plus the celebrant who performs the marriage and a photographer it would be very subtle and would not disturb anyone else's day
