Highly recommend renting kayaks and exploring on your own. Pace yourself and enjoy all the beauty away from the crowds. Time stops away from tour boats and you can see attractions along the river without the tourists. I would not visit Kauai without a kayak trip on the Wailua.

This state park is vast, encompassing Wailua Falls, Opaeka'a Falls, Wailua River, Fern Grotto, Uluwehi Falls and Nounou Mountain (Sleeping Giant). You can get a great overview of the river valley from the overlook on highway 580. There are numerous kayak, canoe and paddleboard companies, along with the Smith Family that will provide excursions up the river to see up-close... More

My wife and I fly all the way from Virginia to Hawaii, and what's one of the first things that we do? A kayak river tour, of course! The first thing that you really need to know is that the river is truly a class 0. I mean, I'm pretty sure there wasn't so much as a current on that... More

A great place to explore the beauty of Kauai! Rent a kayak or go with a guide and you will definitely have a lot of memories. Take a lot of pics too! A memorable experience!

We wanted to see beautiful sites while we were in Kauai and this is a must see park and waterfall. There are lots to do and see as you work your way up to this spectacular waterfall so be prepared to spend some time.

We rented a kayak to paddle up to the trailhead for Secret Falls, then to go over to the cliff jump area. I won't review the hike here (which is incredible) but the experience of kayaking and playing in the Wailua River was exceptional. Pictures simply cannot do justice to the feeling of being in a jungle paradise. We were... More

You can see this beautiful river from a lookout point, but once you are on the river, it offers so much more. We rented a kayak and spent the morning going up and back seeing the Fern Grotto along with Secret falls trail and waterfall. Even if you don't feel like a little hike or getting out of the kayak,... I took a river boat cruise that ended at the entrance to the Fern Grotto. Highly recommend, although next time I'll rent a kayak and take my time getting there!

We have done both the river cruise to the Fern Grotto and kayaked the river. Either way it's a great what to see the Wailua River. It has been used as a backdrop in many movies as the jungles of Asia. The paddling in a kayak is easy due to the calmness of the river. It is also a very... More
