Grand canal is a nice area and the square itself is kept clean and has good amenities. What is disappointing is if you take the walk up the canal all the way up to Portobello. The pavement is really in disrepair, there is litter in...More

The Grand Canal runs from the port of Dublin via a basin (with canoe racing when we were there) and through areas where old Georgian houses sit opposite modern buildings. It is calm and peaceful, yet always close to road access. Every Friday there is...More

This grand canal is quite a nice walk. It is on the southside of the city and there are a lot of Georgian and Victorian buildings along the canal. There are also ambassador houses and it is obvious a wealthy neighbourhood. The canal cuts and...More

Super interesting. The cruise goes through the locks. The Capt; explains the process and encourages the guests to watch. The dinner was very good also!

Walk to any point on The Grand Canal and just walk along its paths. You'll pass embassies, locks, stone bridges, parks, mansions, shops and historic houses without the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar, the Liffey or Grafton Street, just a comfortable mix of exercise,...More

Such a lovely walk on a sunny day down to the grand canal dock area. We walked from town right down and had a lovely cuppa looking out at the views. Lovely

I suggest that you start at the River Liffey, where you can see where new condos and restaurants have replace docklands. As you walk along, you will pass a variety of residential neighbourhoods. You can always get back to downtown streets, but if you like...More
