The Gaol has been prettifed a lot since my childhood visits and, in a way, has lost some atmosphere. You used to walk straight into this forbidding, foreboding jailhouse. Now there is a large, modern interpretive area to go through before you reach the jail...More

Sadly didn't know before arriving that you have to be part of a tour to go inside the gaol. The spaces get snapped up quite quickly which meant we'd have to wait over an hour (which we didn't have) for the next tour. We opted...More

I visisted on a cold rainy morning in November. I would like to praise the young woman who was our guide that morning. She was knowledgable, engaging and able to answer all manner of questions. To me this meant that she knew her subject well...More

Kilmainham Gaol is a must, you can only go around it as part of a tour but the guide is really knowledgable and will answer any of your questions. A few films have been filmed here and if you watch Ripper Street you will recognise...More

On arrival we were told the next tour was not for another 40mins there were plenty archives in the museum or a coffee bar to pass the time. The tour itself was excellent with a guide giving good knowledgable commentary. The restoration has not diminished...More

An interesting tour, very political but worth going to hear about the prisoners held during the rebellion. Would recommend a visit.
