If you visit Dublin MAKE SURE you visit Kilmainham Jail. It will give you an insight into conditions the prisoners, most of them political, were subjected to during the Irish Rebellion around 1916. Very sad, but well worth the money. Top class Guides.

I loved seeing this place. I watched the movie and History of 1916 from Netflix. This place brought the history back to life. They had such a struggle from the British.

First, be sure you get tickets before you go. They sell out and are time specific. Interesting, great tour and low doorways. If you’re tall, beware! Irish are obsessed with conflicts of all sorts. I think they thrive on it. This is another piece of...More

For a serious tourist, this must be the most significant Dublin experience. The prison which represented the oppression of Irish identity still reeks of past suffering today. Appropriately the movie 'In the Name of the Father' was filmed here. The guide on our tour was...More

I have worked at the county jail in Seattle for nearly 34 years. Love the history of this jail as it was so impactful to the Irish people. It really moves you listening to the guides and stories associated with this old jail.

Very well organized tour. Buying tickets online beforehand is highly recommended. And remember that the guides are Irish native speakers: they will teach you about the prison, the Irish history and their important people - in native speaker English!!! If you don’t feel comfortable enough...More

We didn't have the opportunity to visit the Book of Kells and the Old Library Exhibition, so I can't compare the two, however I believe that this definitely would be appealing to a 14 year old. Have fun in Dublin!

Yes, to both questions. I can't post links here, but if you go to the OPW's website - Office of Public Works - you can find more information.
