Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

As an avid history buff, this was a must do while in Dublin. However, due to only being able to view the state rooms, and none of the actual living areas of the castle, it pales a little when compared to other castle tours. The artwork is beautiful and the Throne Room is impressive to name two of my favorite... More

It's very interesting to know more about the history and how Dublin was built. Inside it's very beautiful. But outside there is not that much to see, main parts of the old castle were (unfortunately) destroyed so it's really short to visit

Excellent historical knowledge and tour on 15th March - very balanced historically without taking a political view. By taking the tour you visit the hidden wall/moat and the Chapel.

There are certainly nicer castles to visit, but this one is right in dublin and the chester beatty library alone is worth the visit.

We're currently in Dublin on a midweek break. First visit was to Dublin Castle. There wasn't any castle as such to see except for a surviving mediaeval tower surrounded by several much more imposing but modern buildings. However once inside we were led around by Jennifer. A very knowledgeable guide, she led us through several areas explaining the history of... More

Well worth the visit as you walk through history. There is more to see than you would think and some fascinating insights into British rule in Ireland.

If you have some time to spare and are out of options, then the castle can be given a shot. It is not as grand as the other castles you usually come across in Europe. You can take a self guided tour to visit the state apartments (where a lot of tapestry and artefacts can be seen). There is a... More

Went on a guided tour of Dublin castle this morning (10.15am) the tour lasted a little over an hour and was very informative. Our guide was quirky and knowledgable, and the group was rather small (20) which allowed for everyone to see the item(s) being discussed. Dublin Castle provides you with complimentary secure lockers to leave belongings which is a... More
