Overview
More
Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

A visit to the state rooms is a must, such elegance. I walked around with guide book in hand and enjoyed everything I saw.

This is a series of buildings that are by all accounts ancient and very cool, but it isn't what you think a castle should look like. I don't think anyone lived there but much history, ceremonial, happened here and there is a lot of antiquities...More

First my bias - I could not understand 90% of the paid government guide - their Eastern European accent was simply indecipherable... which meant the 1000 tour through the catacombs was wasted. Leaving the remainder of the tour better on one’s own. Signage is straightforward...More

This was of course the first Castle we stopped at while in Ireland. Hasn’t planned on seeing it the day we arrived, but stumbled upon it waking Dublin. Glad we did. It’s beautiful. Definitely love the stories and the feeling of it’s uses.

for ten euros, go experience it. its not a huge museum, but it gives a concise history of royalty in dublin, and how many people have visited it.

We visited Dublin Castle as part of a tour. We started in the courtyard, looking around at the various art set above entries and arches. Inside, we were treated to some wonderful stories of visiting dignitaries including England's Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth. The rooms...More

We walked by without every noticing it. So went back and checked it out. It wasn't something I would visit again in the future.

You can visit Dublin Castle and view the outside - it is all very interesting and historic and well worth the walk. You don't need to go inside to get the drift of the place but if you do, you'll find it well worth it....More

If you have little time a walk by will do you just fine. If you have more time get there early (like as soon as they open) and get tickets for a tour. It really is worth the 10 euro, but not necessary to appreciate...More

We toured the castle apartments and the chapel ourselves, and had a guided tour of the medieval undercroft (I highly recommend that, fascinating). I would say it took 2 1/2 hours at the most.
