Underneath the church are five long burial vaults containing the mummified remains of many of Dublin's most influential 17th, 18th and 19th century families, including the legendary Shears brothers and the highly decorated coffins of the Earl's of Leitrim. Since Victorian times visitors have descended the vault steps to see the mummies and Bram Stoker, creator of the "Dracula" stories is believed to have visited the vaults in the company of his family. In one vault can be seen the remains of the "Crusader" though in fact he is only 650 years dead. The early visitors to the vaults were responsible for many of the myths and legends surrounding the bodies, though modern scientific investigations have cast doubts on many of these stories. Nevertheless, a visit to the Crypts to see the historic mummies is a remarkable experience.

I want my Mummy

Very animated tour guy..he made you feel creeped out..it was great! Don't try the crypt viewing if you have bad knees, steps are rather steep.

I am writing about the tour of the underground crypt, not the church itself.Don't get me wrong, I found this a good experience well worth the time and money. For me the 3 star rating had a lot to do with the short length of the tour, the small crypts space itself, and the personal uneasiness I felt at peering... More

The church itself isn't much to see, although the organ might have been famously played by Handel. The crypts are below, and their guide will take you through them and provide background. They are a bit creepy, with skeletons, bones, and mummified bodies strewn about inside the various chambers. I'd been told one of the mummies could be touched for... More

This is a small attraction but definitely worth the visit. The guide was wonderfully odd and very knowledgeable. You can even see the perfectly preserved finger and toenails on one of the mummies.

This was really a great tour! The mister who gave the tour was priceless. At first we didn't know what to think of him. But he was so great. Our son (5 years old) loved him. The mister gave us enough time to translate things for him. So funny he made him guess the sex of the mummies and more.... More

Got dragged here by husband, claiming they had "mummies." I had no idea what he was talking about, but I like old churches so figured it would be at least interesting to explore. The church itself isn't anything extraordinary, but they offer a tour into their crypt. IT. WAS. AWESOME. The man that took us down got totally into character,... More

A bit different than most tourist sites. Not for those frightened of ghosts and bodies, but exceptionally interesting and some unique history. Highly recommended.

What an experience... the tour guide is so enthusiastic but relaxed and the short tour to see the crypts and the mummies should be on everyone's to do list in Dublin (although I'm not sure they'd handle many more visitors) Two crypts, one with exposed mummies for the €6 fee was well worth it

Well worth a visit. The tour guide was very good and very entertaining. The mummys in the vault were well preserved and to hear the history behind them was superb.

Saw a traditional irish music concert at this church. COncert was great and the church was beautiful. I don't think they use the church anymore, but still nice

Thank Stephen D
